Abstract

The invention provides a culture device comprising a body of culture medium (20) and supporting means for maintaining the integrity of the body of culture medium, the culture medium providing a surface (6) having a defined endless boundary or perimeter, the body of culture medium protruding from and the culturing surface being spaced from any aforesaid means disposed externally of the body of culture medium. The supporting means may include an anchor internal of the culture medium and a base external to the culture medium. Apparatus for use in preparing the culture device and methods of preparing the culture device are disclosed. <IMAGE>
