Abstract

A portable animal dry feed dispenser with the ability to dispense various feeds, consists of a hopper 3 a nozzle 2 protruding from, and extending through the hopper 3. Within the nozzle 2 is a flexible plastics centreless auger 1, connected to an electric motor 4. The length of nozzle inside the hopper has a section removed thereby exposing the auger, allowing feed to enter the nozzle and auger. Has a time switch for automatic operation. <IMAGE>

Description

PORTABLE ANIHAL DRY FEED DISPENSER This invention relates to a portable animal dry feed dispenser Animal feed delivery systems have long been established on commercial farms, perhaps most notably for pigs and poultry. However, portable animal feed delivery systems which are capable of delivering commercially produced bulky compound dry pellets or rolls and whole grains automatically have not been available to the small farmer or smallholder Thereby, releasing the smallholder from the necessity of feeding the animals manually, for perhaps a few days.
According to the present invention there is a portable animal dry feed dispenser comprising a hopper for the containment of feed. Protruding from the front of this is a nozzle which extends through the diameter of the hopper and attaches on the inside thereof. Contained within the nozzle is a flexible plastic centreless auger of similar length which is attached to a suitable electric drive motor at the opposite end from the protruding section of nozzle. The motor is attached to and on the outside of the hopper with the drive shaft protruding through the hopper and attaching to the rear of the auger within. The inner section of the nozzle has an area removed, thereby, becoming a channel and exposing the auger within the channel. This allows feed to drop via gravity into the auger and channel, conveying feed with little or no damage to the outside of the hopper via the nozzle when the motor is switched on. The auger is so designed as to compress under load along its length with no damage to itself and in conjunction with the motor to excert sufficient compression to expel blockages before they develop.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by reference to the accompanying drawings in which; Figure 1 Illustrates the flexible plastic centreless auger before installation within the nozzle; Figure 2 Illustrates the flexible plastic centreless auger in position within the nozzle and, Figure 3 Shows in perspective a cross-section of the portable animal dry feed dispenser with the component parts in position.
Referring to Figure 3 the machine tnmprises of the auger '1) which is contained within the nozzle (2) which in turn is contained within the hopper (3). The auger (1) is attached to the drive motor (4) via the motor drive shaft (5) which protrudes through the rear of the hopper (3). When the motor is switched on (via the A/C mains lesd (6)) the auger rotates in a anti-clockwise direction (as viewed from the front).
In order to achieve small deliveries the hopper may be fitted with nozzles and augers of various sizes but which are compatable with each other and the type of feed being dispensed. The hopper may also be of various shape or size but should be of a size that is easily transportable by an average person. To be at its most functional it is invisaged that this machine be used in conjunction with an electronic time switch.
