Engraving. - The cutting-tool spindle a of an engraving- machine is mounted in a bearing b capable of axial movement, the bearing being supported in the machine frame m by means of a bayonet slot connection whereby the tool and bearing can be removed from the machine and placed bodily in a machine for grinding the point. A sleeve g, slidably mounted on the bearing b, is provided with diametrically opposite pins h adapted, when the bearing is applied to the machine. to enter a circular groove k in the frame m by way of slots i and, when the sleeve is turned, to be forced into recesses s in the groove by means of a spring o between a collar n on the bearing and the end of the sleeve. The end of the bearing b normally bears against a device p for axial adjustment of the tool spindle, this device being described in Specification 211,449. The ends of the bearing are closed by means of caps c, d, and a sleeve f is provided for driving the spindle a.
