Abstract

This ceramic attractile and entrapment device consists of a ceramic unit in its fired state as shown in Figure 1 number 1 and is of cellular structure as shown in Figure 1 number 2. This invention will entrap, attract and collect scale (dissolved calcium carbonate, magnesium salts and chalk) which are released when water is heated, thus preventing the build up of scale when placed in a heated water unit or system, therefore reducing energy costs and the life of the heated water units and systems is increased. <IMAGE>

Description

SCALE ATTRACTILE AND ENTRAPMENT DEVICE This invention relates to a device to attract, collect and trap scale (dissolved calcium carbonate, magnesium salts and chalk).
Heated water units, for example kettles, urns, water systems and water tanks suffer a build up over a period of time of scale (dissolved calcium carbonate, magnesium salts and chalk) - this slows down the heating time and increases energy costs, also reducing the life expentaocy of the unit or system. The build-up also restricts the flow of water through scale effected pipes and fittings.
The invention consists of a unit of ceramic material in its fired state, giving a large surface area of cellular structure, which when placed in a heated water unit or system will attract and entrap scale (dissolved calcium carbonate, magnesium salts and chalk).
The size and shape of the ceramic cellular device shall be determined by its application. This invention by reducing scale speeds up the heating time of water, reduces energy costs and increases the life of the unit or system in which it is placed.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the cellular structure of the ceramic unit in its fired state 1 - Ceramic 2 - Voids The scale attractile and entrapment device of ceramic cellular structure and fired is placed in a heated water unit or system where it will attract and entrap scale (dissolved calcium carbonate, magnesium salts and chalk).

Claims (1)

  1. The invention consists of a unit of ceramic material in its fired state and of cellular structure, giving a large surface area, which when placed in a heated water system will attract and entrap scale (dissolved calcium carbonate, magnesium salts and chalk).
    The size and shape of the ceramic cellular device shall be determined by its application. The invention reduces scale thereby speeding up the heating time of water, reducing energy costs and increasing the life of the unit or system in which it is placed.
