An insulated container (10) encloses the coil pipe (45) and is filled with liquid low-temperature coolant (19) cooled by the air conditioning system during previous use. A pipe (25) has two ends (11, 12) communicated to the container (10) and a coil portion (21) mounted inside the seats (20) in the vehicle. A pump (30) is provided on the pipe (25) to circulate the coolant (19) in the pipe (25) and the container (10) to cool the seats (20). The coolant (19) may be water. <IMAGE>

Description

Cooling Device for Vehicle Seats The present invention relates to a cooling device for vehicle seats and, more particularly, to a cooling device which can be incorporated into the air conditioning system of the vehicle to cool the seats of the vehicle.
Vehicles are often in an insulated condition when parked, in which the inside air cannot circulate. In such a case, the temperature of air inside the vehicles used in tropical or subtropical zones often becomes intolerably high, the temperature of seats may even reach up to 6O0C.
Even though the vehicles are equipped with air conditioning systems, it still takes a considerable time to cool the seats, before which the driver and passengers will feel extremely uncomfortable. Furthermore, even when the air conditioning is turned on, the heat exchange effect for cooling the seat is unsatisfactory as the driver and passengers sit on the seats. Therefore, there has been a long and unfulfilled need for a cooling device to cool the seats.
An air conditioning system in a vehicle generally includes a compressor, a condenser with a cooling fan, a coolant container, and an expansion valve. The present invention is characterized in that a coil pipe is formed between the compressor and the expansion valve. A container is provided to enclose the coil pipe and is filled with low-temperature coolant, such as water.
A pipe has both ends communicated to the container and a coil portion mounted inside the driver seat of the vehicle. A pump and a control valve are provided on the pipe.
When the seat is to be cooled, under the operation of the pump, the low temperature water circulates in the container and the pipe to cool the seats. When desired, the user may switch the control valve to cut out the circulation of water and stop the pump, such that the air conditioning system may operate independently. Preferably, the container is provided with insulating material so as not to interfere with the operation of the air conditioning system. When desired, the cooling pipe may pass through all of the seats in the vehicle to cool them.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a cooling device to rapidly cool the vehicle seats without significantly modifying the structure of the vehicle Other objects, advantages, and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a schematic view of a cooling device, incorporated into a vehicle air conditioning system, in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a schematic view showing the application of the cooling device in an automobile; and Fig. 3 is a view illustrating another embodiment of the cooling device.
Referring to the drawings and initially to Figs. 1 and 2, an air conditioning system in a vehicle generally includes a compressor 40, a condenser 41 with a cooling fan 42, a coolant container 43, and an expansion valve 44. The present invention is characterized in that a coil pipe 45 is formed between the compressor 40 and the expansion valve 44. A container 10 is provided to enclose the coil pipe 45 and is filled with low-temperature coolant, such as water 19.
A pipe 25 has a first end 11 communicated to the container 10, a second end 12 which is also communicated to the container 10, and a coil portion 21 mounted inside the driver seat 20. A pump 30 and a control valve 31 are provided on the pipe 25.
Operation of the air conditioning system of the vehicle is conventional and therefore is not illustrated.
When the seat 20 is to be cooled, the air conditioning is turned on, the low-temperature water 19 in the container 10 is drawn out via the first end 11 by the pump 30 to the coil portion 21 to absorb the heat of the seat 20, whose temperature rises here, and then returns into the container 10 via the inlet 12. The now high temperature water 19 is cooled by the low temperature coolant in the coil pipe 45 of the air conditioning system. As the temperature of water 19 is relatively low, even after it absorbs the heat from the seat 20, it does not significantly affect the operation of the air conditioning system. When desired, the user may switch the control valve 31 to cut out the circulation of water 19 and stop the pump 30, such that the air conditioning system may operate independently. Preferably, the container 10 is provided with insulating material so as not to interfere with the operation of the air conditioning system. When desired, the cooling pipe 25 may pass through all of the seats 20, 22, and 24 in the vehicle to cool them, as shown in Fig. 3.
Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
