Abstract

The invention provides retractable retaining elements (234), such as spring clips, on either the subframe or the window or door frame (200), which have to retract to allow the window or door frame (200) to be fitted, but which spring outwardly when the window or door frame arrives at its fully fitted position to retain that frame. In addition to the retaining element (234) there is a locking device (256), which is manually operably by turning and which, when operated, applies a locking force nullifying the resilience of the retaining element. Hence, the retaining element can be very pliant, to allow easy fitting of the window or door frame, but once the window or door frame is in position, the resilience is cancel led, so as to provide a rigid stop, preventing withdrawal of the window or door frame. <IMAGE>
