Abstract

A bracket having a body 1 for mounting small electric motor 8 incorporates an adjusting mechanism 5/7 for accurate alignment of the motor drive shaft with the driven load. Pin 6 presses the motor against the facing support and screw 7 engages, via threaded hole 7 the chassis 9 to effect adjustment. The bracket is secured to the chassis through hole 4. Pin 6 may be threaded, bonded or a press-fit in hole 3. <IMAGE>

Description

Motor Mounting Bracket This invention relates to a mounting bracket for electricaliy powered models.
The use of small electric motors to power models is well known, a particular example being model trains.
It is common experience that with use motors either wear out or the electrical parts burn-out often necessitating comp!ete replacement. In the course of time replacement motors become difficult to obtain due to obsolescence however.
Motors can also be incorporated into models not originally supplied with or built with motors. This operation is however ofter frustrated by the difficulty of correctly engaging the drive gears.
According to the present invention there is provided a means of mounting commonly obtainable small electric motors using an adapter bracket which incorporates an adjusting mechanism to ensure accurate alignment of the drive mechanism and also provides a means of attachment to the model frame.
The bracket is constructed so as to provide a rigid holding means for the electric motor and may be so dimensioned as to fit whatever types of motor are avilable.
The method of construction of the bracket is typically of bent sheet metal but could also be fabricated from separate parts, either metal or suitable plastic or made by casting or one piece moulding techniques.
A specific embodiment of the invention by way of one example manufactured from bent metal sheet will now be described.
Figure 1 shows the parts of the bracket.
Figure 2 shows the bracket in persepctive with a typical motor 8 installed on chassis 9 slightly raised by 7 Referring to the Figures the body of the bracket 1 contains a motor retaining hole 3 and a pin 6. The pin 6 is shaped to engage on to the motor and is press fitted into hole 3 or alternatively may be threaded or adhesively bonded to engage securely into hole 3.
The opposite end of the motor is engaged in the appropriately shaped hole 2.
Together threaded hole 5 which accommodates threaded pin 7 provides a means by abutment with the model frame of adjusting the engagement of the motor spindle and drive gear with the model drive train.
Hole 4 provides a means of attaching the bracket and motor therein to the model.
Figure 10 is either silver soldered orthreaded and bolted to Figure 1.
