Description
SELF-ADHESIVE PAD
The present invention relates to a self-adhesive pad operative to be impregnated with a chemical such as a decongestant.
Many known decongestants such as menthol and oil of eucalyptus are applied by rubbing into the skin or on clothing. This method of application is messy and also often results in staining of clothing or linen.
Furthermore vapour often lingers from the clothing or linen after it is required.
The present invention has been made from a consideration of these problems.
According to the present invention there is provided a self-adhesive pad comprising a body operative to be impregnated with a chemical and an adhesive coated portion, wherein the face of the body which is operative to release the chemical is on a different face of the pad to the adhesive.
The pads of the present invention are small, light and are very easily adhered in position and removed.
Preferably the pad is supplied after impregnation with the chemical. Alternatively the pad could be supplied separately from the chemical and the pad could be impregnated by the user. A releasable backing strip may be provided over the adhesive coated portion. A releasable cover is optionally provided over the chemically impregnated body. Alternatively the pads could be individually sealed and wrapped. The chemical is preferably volatile and may comprise a decongestant and/or a perfume and/or any other volatile material.
In order that the present invention may be more readily understood a specific embodiment thereof will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 shows a cross section through one chemically impregnated pad in accordance with the invention.
Referring to the drawing a small disposable chemically impregnated pad 10 comprises a soft textile member 11 which is impregnated with a perfume or a volatile decongestant such as menthol or oil of eucalyptus. The rear face of the textile material is coated with adhesive 12. A releasable backing strip 13 is supplied over the adhesive. A releasable cover strip 14 is provided over the front face of the impregnated material. A picture which is attractive to children may be located on the soft textile member 11.
In use the backing strip 13 is removed from the textile member 11 and the textile member 11 is secured in place on the user's skin or clothing by way of the adhesive. The cover strip 14 is then removed thus allowing the vapours from the decongestant to be released into the air.
The pad 10 can be worn at any time of the day or night and will not soil clothing or linen. The pad 10 can be located near the face of the user so that the vapours are constantly inhaled by the user.
Furthermore the pad is neat and small and can be easily carried and applied by anyone, even a child.
It is to be understood that the above embodiment has been described by way of illustration only. Many modifications and variations are possible.
For example, the pads could be individually sealed and wrapped and so do not need a releasable cover.
Claims (8)
