Abstract
A general purpose container which can be suspended from the underneath and to the side of, all hollow rung constructed ladders, whilst the ladder is in a normal working position. The general purpose container is designed to self-lock, in a cantilever position by means of the locking wedge, which is an integral part of the overall design, when the adjustable rung attachment rod is engaged into the selected ladder rung. The ladder can be safely moved about the workplace with the container in its fixed position. <IMAGE>
Description
General Purpose Ladder Mounted Container.
Technical field.
This invention relates to a general purpose ladder mounted
container.
Background .
There are a number of ladder mounted containers and paint not holders at present on the market, but invariably, these either clip over the rungs at the front of the ladder, and impede movement on the ladder, or they tale the form of a type of hook, which fits over a rung at the back of a ladder, from which a bucket or container hangs.
These types of containers involve many unnecessary skiftinz of positions on the ladder, in the course of one's work.
Most ladder mounted containers, while in use, inhibits a persons movement movement up and down a ladder, and also whilst working on a ladder.
This container has been designed to eliminate these problems.
Descrintion and Scecification.
According to the present invention there is provided an open toed, watertight container which can be suspended underneath and to the side of all hollow rung constructed ladders, whilst the ladder is in the normal worrying position. This container allows unrestricted movement up or down the ladder, and provides a means of storing paint, liquids, tools or equipment within easy and comfortable reach, leaving a person with both hands free to carry out their proposed work.
The container is oblong shared, the front panel of which is offset to accomodate the rake or slant of the angle of a ladder, which is in a working position.
Attached to the offset front panel is a spacing unit incorporating a tube, which together, when the container is attached to a ladder, take up the difference of space between the rung hole centre, and the underside edge of the ladder, against which a section of the panel will rest, when in its working position.
By sliding a rung attachment rod through the container spacer tube, and into the selected ladder rung, to a nredetermined distance, the container becomes attached to the ladder and is held in position by means of a cantilever action, with a section of the front offset panel pressing on the underside edge of the ladder.
The container is effectively locked in position by means of a narrow triangular shaped wedge section, on the front offset panel of the container. There is a wedge at both ends to facilitate both left and right handed usage, and they are an integral part of the overall design.
The wedge rests behind the ladder section, and acts as a stop, when when the container is in its position, therefore restricting any sideways movement by the container.
The ladder can now be moved to different working positions without demounting the container.
The container is released from its locked position by lifting in an upward and forward movement, by means of its carrying handle, allowing the wedge to clear the ladder shaft, thus enabling the container to be withdrawn from the ladder rung.
The rung attachment rod is a one piece rod of two differing diameters, one end of which fits snugly into the container spacing tube.
The other end is of a smaller diameter to accomodate smaller sized ladder rungs.
This smaller end shall be supplied with a slide over sleeve or sleeves, to fit larger sized ladder rungs.
The container can be used in the right or left handed position, on the underside of a ladder, by reversing the rung attachment rod on the container.
The container is fitted with a fold away handle, in a central positions for easy carding, fitting and removal.
The container will be made from plastic, and or, metal.
The container incorporates additional accessories as follows:
An end clip-on paint brush and miscelaneous holder.
A cli-on paint roller extension handle holder.
A sit in, clip-on tray for small items and tools.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be
described by way of example with reference to the
accompanying drawings in which :
Fig 1 shows in perspective the general purpose container attached to
the ladder, with the intregal locking wedge in position 2,and with the rung attachment rod, with sleeve, in its fixed position,
through the container spacing unit tube, and onto the ladder
rung 3.

small items and tools.

Claims (3)
1. A general purpose container, which can be suspended from the underneath and to the side of, all hollow rung constructed ladders whilst the ladder is in the normal working position.
The container is oblong shaped, the front panel of which is offset to accomodate the rake or angle of a ladder, which is in a working position.
Attached to the offset front panel is a spacing unit, incorporating a tube, which together, when the container is attached to a ladder, take up the difference of space between the rung hole centre and the the underside edge of the ladder, against which a section of the offset front panel will rest, when in its working position.
The container is fitted with a centred position, foldaway carrying handle.
The means of attaching and suspending the container to a ladder is by way of a rung attachment rod, which shall be a one piece rod of differing diameters, one end of which fits snugly into the container spacing tube. The other smaller diameter end shall be supplied with a slip over sleeve, or sleeves, to fit larger sized ladder rungs. This smaller end, with or without a fitted sleeve, when inserted into the selected ladder rung to a pre-determined distance, will attach the container to the ladder, and hold it in position by means of a cantilever action, with a section of the offset front panel pressing on the underside edge of the ladder.
The container will be locked in position by means of a narrow triangular wedge section, which is an integral part of the overall design, and is situated towards the lower end of the offset front panel, which, when in position fits inside the underneath section of the ladder and effectively restricts any side to side movement, until container is lifted by its handle in an upward and forward motion, to allow the loclcing wedge to clear the ladder shaft, enabling container to be withdrawn from ladder rung.
2. A general purpose container as claimed in claim 1, wherein the container shall be used in the right or left handed position, by way of its overall design, by reversing the rung attachment rod in the container spacing unit.
3. A general purpose container substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 - 5 of the accompanying drawings.
