Abstract
A cake of soap is formed having a display member, e.g. bearing a manufacture's trademark, incorporated therein. The moulding apparatus comprises a lower mould unit 10, an intermediate mould unit 20 and an upper mould unit 40. In use, the lower mould unit 10 is first placed on top of the intermediate mould unit with the display member 30 resting on protrusions 22 in the intermediate mould. When liquid soap is poured into the moulding cavity defined by the two moulds a half-cake of soap is obtained with the display member incorporated therein. The intermediate mould is then removed, A the lower mould unit inverted, the upper mould unit placed on top and the other half of the soap cake formed. The resulting cake of soap has a display member embedded therein which will be visible throughout the life of the soap. <IMAGE>
Description
MOLD FOR MAKING A PRODUCT
The invention relates to a mold for making a product, more particularly, but not exclusively, to a mold for making a cake of soap which has a display member, such as a trademark or a brand name, provided therein.
In order to display a trademark or a brand name of a product, a label that bears the brand name or the trademark of the product is stuck or printed on a package in which the product is packed. In the case of a soap, the trademark or the brand name is usually embossed or printed on the cake of soap. The embossed mark on the soap usually disappears after a short period of use. Thus, the consumer will not know what brand of soap he/she is using unless he/she is a regular user. It will be much preferable, from an advertising point of view, if the embossed mark on the soap can remain thereon throughout the useful life of the soap.
A main aim of the present invention is to provide a mold for making a cake of soap which has a manufacturer's mark that is present throughout the useful life of the soap.
According to the present invention, the mold for producing a soap includes an upper mold unit and a lower mold unit each of which has an inlet that permits the entry of a molding material therein. The upper and lower mold units cooperatively define the mold for making the product. The mold further includes an intermediate mold unit which can be capped on one of the upper and lower mold units. The intermediate mold unit has a receiving face which faces the inlet of one of the mold units and has a depression from which a plurality of protrusions extend. Each of the protrusions has an abutting face that is flushed with one another.
Other features and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent in the following detailed description, including drawings, all of which show a non-limiting form of the present invention, and in which:
Figure 1 is an exploded view of a mold for making a cake of soap according to the present invention;
Figure 2 is a cross section view which shows an intermediate mold unit being received in a lower mold unit of the mold of Figure 1;
Figure 3 shows a half-finished soap in the lower mold unit of the mold of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a cross section view which illustrates the finished soap formed in the mold of the present invention and the intermediate mold unit removed from the mold; and
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a cake of soap that is produced by the mold of the present invention.
Referring to Figure 1, the mold of the present invention is used for producing a cake of soap and includes a lower mold unit (10), an intermediate mold unit (20), a display member (30) and an upper mold unit
(40).
The upper and lower mold units (10, 40) are identical in shape, each provided with an inlet (12, 42) to permit a mold substance therein. The lower mold unit (10) has a first cavity (11) for receiving the mold substance therein and a stepped portion (111)' which has a predetermined depth measured from the periphery of the lower mold unit (10). The upper mold unit (40) confines a second cavity (41) to receive the mold substance and an annular flange (411) which is received fittingly in the stepped portion (111) of the lower mold unit (10) when the upper mold unit (40) is capped on lower mold unit (10), thereby defining the mold for producing a cake of soap therein, as shown in
Figure 4.
The intermediate mold unit (20) has a receiving face (23) with a depression (21) formed therein and a stepped portion (211) which is received fittingly in the stepped portion (111) of the lower mold unit (10) when the former is placed on the latter during the soap making process. A plurality of identical protrusions (22) extend from the depression (21) and are each provided with an abutting face. The identical protrusions (22) have curved abutting faces, each of which has a predetermined depth relative to the depression (21). The abutting faces of the identical protrusions (22) are flushed with one another.
When the mold of the present invention is used to make a cake of soap, the lower mold unit (10) is first capped on the intermediate mold unit (20). The display member (30) is a thin member with a manufacturerfs mark printed thereon. The display member (30) is placed in the depression (21) such that the abutting faces of the identical protrusions (22) cooperatively support the display member (30) in a horizontal position, thus forming a clearance (b) between the display member (30) and the bottom of the depression (21), as shown in
Figure 2. Under this condition, the receiving face
(23) of the intermediate mold unit (20) closes one end of the cavity (11) of the lower mold unit (10) such that the depression (21) faces the inlet (12) of the lower mold unit (10).When the liquid soap material is poured into an enclosure which is defined by the mold units (10, 20), a half-finished soap (1), which has the display member (30) embedded therein, is obtained. The liquid soap material seeps under the display member (30) and fills the clearance (la) as shown in Figure 3, thereby retaining the display member (30) in the halffinished soap (1) when the latter hardens. The intermediate mold unit (20) is removed from the lower mold unit (10). The half-finished soap (1) is formed with a plurality of grooves (lb) due to the identical protrusion (22) in the depression (21).
The upper mold unit (40) is then capped on the lower mold unit (10). The liquid soap material is poured into the second cavity (41) of the upper mold unit (40) through the inlet (42) of the same. The upper and lower mold units (10, 40) are removed when the second half-finished soap (2) is hardened. A cake of soap with a display member therein is thus obtained.
Note that since the liquid soap material is transparent, the display member (30) inside the cake of soap is visible. The display member (30) is thus present throughout the useful life of the soap.
