Abstract

The portable door lock is a device to enable typical interior doors to be secured in any position, by use of a portable locking door restraint. Applied externally enabling any room to be secured whether it is provided with existing security or not. The device comprises two parts, one placed either side of the door on the floor. The two are connected by a ratchet bar which engages a suitable device in one of the parts. The two parts are drawn together and then locked in position by an integral key lock. In one embodiment the two parts are wedges and in another, one of the parts has a pivoted arm which engages the floor. In this case after the two parts are drawn together using the ratchet, they are clamped to the door and locked.

Description

PORTABLE DOOR LO(8E A device to enable typical interior doors to be secured by use of a portable locking door restraint applied externally.
To provide additional security independent of any existing locks etc.
Particularly suitable for use by people in shared accommodation ie students, B & B, Bedsits, private rooms, tourists, people taking hotel rooms, apartments etc.
Also suitable for use by security organisations, police etc.
to prevent access through doors to restricted areas.
The device consists of a door wedge incorporating a spring .1.oa(3e(i bar and matching lock with ratchet. arrangement.
The hase of the wedge is covered with a material designed to offer a high degree of friction for the majority of floor surfao-s. (Drawing number Ia, 1c) For increased security a version is also shown with a hinged blade which will penetrate the surfa.ce of the floor in the event of an attempted forced entry, resisting further movement. (Drawing number Ib, 1c) An alternative means of obtaining. the same end using the same principle as above is also shown which incorporates a strut instead of a de. (Drawing numbers 2a, 2b, 2c) To Secure the Room The assembly ith the lock loosely attached on the ratchet bar is fitted under the door with the wedge/strut on the inside of the room. The door is then closed. Pulling the spring loaded ratchet bar towards the operator and pushing the lock towards the door completes the locking function.
To Unlock the Room Insert the key and turn the lock, this will release the lock assembly on the ratchet bar. Pull the lock away from the door. Pushing the lock and ratchet bar towards the door whilst. opening the door will release the wedge/strut and allow the door to open.
