Abstract

226,344. Jameson, F. W. Nov. 14, 1923. Composition fuel.-Finely divided coal, coke, or other combustible material is briquetted with a binder obtained from fresh green or raw vegetable materials such as grasses, marsh seeds, fresh water weeds, rushes, reeds, cactus, and similar land weeds. The vegetable material is subjected to continued stamping, crushing, or similar treatment with 2-5 per cent of caustic alkali to form a slimy pulp containing all the natural juices of the material together with the cellulose fibres of the plant. The amount of binder does not exceed 10 per cent and may be 3 per cent by weight of the formed briquette.. In an example 15 parts of coal are mixed with 1 part of pulp made from green water or marsh weed.
