Abstract
An adjustable, folding tree stand comprises two circular split sleeves 11, each sleeve being formed in one piece and having two flat flanges at the top for wing nuts and bolts 13 and 14 and two splayed flanges or "lugs" at the bottom of the sleeve to take the legs 10. Each sleeve has two legs 10 mounted on the flanges, the top end of each leg being shaped to lock against the sleeve, and to fold down when not in use. <IMAGE>
Description
Adjustable, Folding Tree Stand
This invention relates to a stand which is particularly suited for use as a Christmas tree stand. It is adjustable to take various sized trees. It has four legs which gives excellent stability and the legs fold up for convenience and ease of storage.
At present, the existing tree stands available have fixed diameter sleeves which means the tree has to be secured in place by nail or screw if it is under the sleeve diameter size. If however it is larger, the tree end has to be paired down or cut to suit. This is time consuming and can result in the tree not being aligned perpendicular. This invention eliminates this as the diameter of the sleeve can be adjusted to suit the tree trunk size by means of two wing nuts. You simply open the two wing nuts, insert the tree into the sleeve and tighten the two wing nuts when the tree is in the required position. Another advantage of the adjustable sleeve is that the cut end of the tree trunk can be allowed to enter a container of water or wet sand placed directly under the stand. This keeps the tree fresh and prevents the pines coming off prematurely due to excessive drying out of the tree. This is especially likely to happen in modern centrally heated buildings.
This stand has four legs, most of the existing stands have only three. The four legs gives the stand much greater stability, especially when laiden with decorations, gifts, etc. It can also take much heavier tree sizes, because it can distribute the weight more evenly. The legs are riveted to four flanges which form part of the bottom of the sleeve. The legs are foldable and can be folded down for convenience and storage.
The stand can be manufactured in a variety of materials e.g. metal, plastic, etc., and can be made in a varies of sizes to suit different applications. The diameter of the sleeve can be made to requirements by lengthening the size of the wing nut used and by changing the curve on the sleeve. The length and size of the legs can also be varied to suit requirements. In all the main advantages of this new invention are the ability to adjust the sleeve size, to give an easier firmer fit and the use of four legs for greater stability.
