Abstract
A ready-knotted neck tie includes a knot plate 2, a pair of wings, 1, 1a formed on the left and right corners of the plate, a pair of through-holes 4, 4a formed on the upper portion of the back side of the plate, a hanging string 9 passing through the through-holes, and a lever 6 formed with a gripping portion (5, Fig.2). The string forms a loop 9a for placing around the neck and under the shirt collar of a wearer, and the lever 6 is then pivoted to secure the string in position by the gripping portion. The tie may be a bow-tie. <IMAGE>
Description
NECK TIE
The present invention relates to a neck tie which enables one to omit the process of tying the knot when putting on the tie, and enables one to put on or take off the tie i.e. to attach it to or detach it from a shirt collar in a short period of time.
A tie is indispensable when males wear a formal suit.
If a tie is to be put on, not only a considerable time is required, but also the task of putting it on is complicated and troublesome. Previously, there has been devised a neck tie in which an inverted triangular node or knot is formed on a plate so formed, and this neck tie can be worn by hanging a hook (attached to the back side of the knot) to the shirt collar and thus to the neck of the wearing person.
However, this previous tie has disadvantages in that the hook can be exposed to the outside during wearing, that an ugly sight can be formed because of the twisting of the knot plate and the neck tie, and that discomfort to the wearer can occur due to friction between his neck and the hook, thereby rendering the neck tie impractical.
The present invention seeks to overcome the abovedescribed disadvantages of conventional neck ties.
The present invention seeks to provide a neck tie in which the knot does not have to be tied when putting it on, thereby rendering the putting on or taking off of a neck tie convenient, and making it possible to put on or take off a neck tie in a short period of time.
According to the present invention there is provided a ready-knotted tie comprising a knot plate carrying the knot of tie, the plate comprising left and right wing members and, on the rear of the plate, through-hole defining means for receiving a string, and a locking arrangement incorporating a pivotal lever member for securing a received string in position.
A preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, of which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the back side of a neck tie according to the present invention; and
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a part of the neck tie of the present invention, showing its use state.
The neck tie 3 of the present invention includes a node or knot plate 2, on which a knot of the necktie is formed. The node plate 2 is provided with a pair of wings 1, la on the left and right corners of the plate 2. The wings 1, la are for insertion under a shirt collar. Two through-holes 4, 4a are formed on the upper portion at the back side of the plate 2, and a hanging string 9 is passed through these through-holes 4, 4a.
A lever 6 with a grip portion 5 formed thereon by bending a part of it is provided below the throughholes 4, 4a.The pivot shaft for the lever 6 is held in a shaft retainer 7, so that a locking arrangement designated 8 is provided for the lever 6. A loop 9a is formed on the upper portion of the hanging string 9 which passes through the through-holes 4, 4a.
The use of the tie will now be described. The tie is kept in a state with a knot formed on the plate 2, and, when it is to be used, the hanging string 9 is pulled out through the through-holes 4, 4a. Then the loop 9a of the hanging string is placed around the neck of the wearer and inserted under the shirt collar, and the wings 1, la are also inserted under the shirt collar.
Then, the hanging string 9 which passes through the through-holes 4, 4a is pulled down by an appropriate amount, and the position of the plate 2 is adjusted, with the lever 6 being pulled down thereafter. Under this condition, the grip portion traps the hanging string 9, and therefore the plate 2 cannot come down.
When the tie is to be taken off, a procedure which is reverse to the above-described putting-on procedure is carried out.
According to the present invention as described above, the tie is put on by hanging the hanging string on the neck of the wearing person. This brings the advantages that the neck of the wearing person is not constricted, that the wearing state is stable, that the wearing form is neat because of the lack of the lifting of the collar, and that the putting-on of the neck tie can be accomplished in a short period of time. Thus middleaged people, who are always busy and in haste, as well as old people, who may be slow in handling ties, and even young boys, will be able to use the tie of the present invention with feeling of convenience.
The tie may be a bow-tie. Means other than a pivoting lever could be used to lock the hanging string in position. The strands of the string 9 could pass through a common through-hole 4.
Claims (9)
1. A ready-knotted tie comprising a knot plate carrying the knot of tie, the plate comprising left and right wing members and, on the rear of the plate, through-hole defining means for receiving a string, and a locking arrangement incorporating a pivotal lever member for securing a received string in position.
2. A tie according to claim 1, wherein the wing members are provided at upper corners of the plate.
3. A tie according to claim 1 or 2 wherein the through-hole defining means are provided at the upper region of the rear of the plate.
4. A tie according to any preceding claim, wherein the plate comprises means defining two through-holes, each arranged to receive a strand of a received string so that the string defines a loop between them.
5. A tie according to any preceding claim wherein the lever member comprises a grip portion arranged to engage a received string, the grip portion being formed by bending part of the lever member.
6. A tie according to any preceding claim wherein the locking arrangement incorporates shaft-retaining means for holding a pivot shaft for the lever member.
7. A tie substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
8. A method of putting on a tie according to any preceding claim, comprising passing the string through the through-hole defining means so that the string forms a loop, passing the loop over the head and under the shirt collar of a wearer, inserting the wing members under the shirt collar, tightening the string and/or adjusting the position of the knot plate to a desired extent, and pivoting the lever member to secure the tie in a desired position.
9. A method of putting on a tie substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
