The tip (9) is locked axially to the tube (4) by the engagement of protrusion (14) in recess (15). The pastel (3) is coated with a plastic varnish to assist extraction by the threaded cap (2). <IMAGE>

Description

PENCIL FOR COSMETIC USE OR FOR DRAWING DESCRIPTION The present innovation refers to a pencil for cosmetic use or for drawing, in particular a make-up pencil or a wax pastel.
As is already known, in the great majority of cases, make-up pencils consist of a wooden outer covering, inside of which a pastel made of waxy material is housed in a fixed manner, in such a way that it has the aspect of an ordinary pencil.
The drawbacks with this known type of make-up pencil are that the pastel inside is apt to break easily, especially when it is sharpened together with the related wooden covering, which has a very different resistance.
Other drawbacks are that these pencils require a separate sharpener and protection cap.
There have also been proposals for some make-up pencils in the form of a lipstick case, in which the pastel emerges by means of a relative rotation between two elements of the case. The pastel, however, still has to be sharpened separately and the whole article does not have the appearance of a pencil, which is the one preferred by the users.
The same problems are substantially found with wax drawing pastels, especially the problem of their needing a separate implement for sharpening them.
The aim of the present invention is to eliminate the above-mentioned drawbacks, by providing a make-up or drawing pencil with a wax pastel, in which such pastel is inserted in an axially sliding manner into a tubular case, whose opening is closed by a tip, screwed around the pastel, which is covered by a plastic varnish, suitable for allowing automatic threading, the tip being covered by a cap which preferably performs the twin function of extracting the pastel and of sharpening it at the same time.
As already said, the pastel is only able to slide axially with respect to the container tube, the relative rotation between such elements being prevented by foreseeing a slight flattening of two opposed faces of the pastel and a housing in the case which has corresponding parallel faces.
The said tip is, on the other hand, fixed axially with respect to the pastel container tube and is able to rotate with respect to the latter. Such rotation which is caused by the rotation of the cap which engages in a rotating manner with the tip, causes the extraction of the pastel, through the tip being screwed down onto the latter.
Preferably the cap has a suitably chamfered face with a slot, enclosing a blade, which sharpens the pastel as it gradually emerges.
Further characteristics of the invention will be made clearer by the detailed description which follows, referring to a purely exemplary, and therefore not restrictive embodiment, illustrated in the appended drawings, in which: Figure 1 is an exploded axonometric view of a make-up or drawing pencil according to the invention, complete with cap; Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the pencil according to the invention, in which the various elements maintain the positions shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 is an enlarged transverse section of the pastel container tube taken along the line III-III in Figure 2; Figure 4 is an enlarged transverse section of the pastel taken along the line IV-IV in Figure 2; Figure 5 is a view of the assembled pencil, without the cap; Figure 6 shows the extraction and the "sharpening" phase of the pastel, in diagrammatic form.
In the description which follows, although reference will be made particularly to a make-up pencil, it goes without saying that it could refer also to a drawing pencil with a wax pastel.
The assembled pencil, without its cap 2, is illustrated in Figure 5, and is shown as a whole with reference number 1.
As will be seen more easily in Figures 1 and 2, the pencil comprises a pastel 3, housed in an outer container tube 4, having an inner cavity 5 with a mouth 6.
The pastel 3 is made of relatively soft material, particularly waxy material, and has two opposing sides 7 which are flattened (Figure 4) in such a way as to be unable to rotate inside the housing 5, which has two corresponding opposite parallel sides 8. Therefore, the pastel 3 is only able to slide axially with respect to the container tube 4.
At one end of the pastel 3 a tip 9 is applied, having a substantially truncated cone shape, provided inside with a seizing thread 10 and provided outside with notches 11, either projecting (as shown in the appended Figures), or in depression. The tip 9 has a shank 12 made elastic by means of notchings 13, with an end border 14 which is snap inserted into an annular outlet 15 foreseen inside the tube 4, near the mouth 6 of the cavity 5, in such a way that the tip 9 remains locked axially with respect to the tube 4, without preventing relative rotary movements between such elements.
It can be clearly understood that once the tip 9 is applied to the pastel 3, when it is rotated it will cause the pastel 3 to be extracted from the tube 4, since any rotary movement between the elments 3 and 4 is prevented.
Since the pastel 3 is made of waxy material and therefore would tend to warp easily, which would cause problems during extraction, an important characteristic of the present innovation is the application of a thin film of plastic varnish onto the pastel, which is automatically threaded by the thread 10 of the tip 9 during the rotation of the latter, thus guaranteeing the extraction of the pastel 3.
The rotation of the tip 9 is carried out by means of the protection cap 2, which is provided for this purpose with notches 16 on its inside, in depression (as shown in the appended Figures), or projecting, which are suitable for engaging the corresponding notches 11 of the tip 9.
Appropriately, the cap 2 has a flat chamfer 17, running along the cone shape of the tip 9, inside of which a slot 18 is made, enclosing a blade 19. In this way the cap 2 acts also as a sharpener.
In fact, as the pastel 3 is gradually extracted from the tube 4, it is also sharpened, as is illustrated in diagrammatic form in Figure 6, which shows the hand 20 of a user and the "shaving" 21 removed from the pastel 3.
From what has been described above, it is easy to see the advantages of the present invention, which, moreover, is not intended to be restricted to the single realization which has been described and illustrated above, but may be extended to all the variations which may be made to its details, which are within the scope of a technician in the art.
Both the case 4 and the tip 9 and the cap 2 are preferably made of plastic material, with the exception of the blade 19, which is suitably a thin metal blade.
Given the low cost of the various parts, re-use of the case when the pastel 3 is used up is not usually foreseen. However, the possible re-use of the various parts is not excluded.

Claims (9)
