Abstract

A bath divider has two panels 1 which when secured together by nuts 3 and bolts 8 is used for dividing a section off within a bath for the purpose of using the least amount of water needed for bathing children, thus conserving water. The two panels are releasably secured together and by releasing nuts 3 either panel can slide to the left or to the right in order to adjust width of the divider in accordance to the size of the bath. When the divider is not in use, the two panels can be separated and stored away. <IMAGE>

Description

WATER SAVING BATH DIVIDER This invention relates to a water saving bath divider.

It is a well known fact that domestic baths for the use of washing use a considerable quantity of water generally. Our water supplies are diminishing fast, and this precious resource is no longer plentiful. Inevitably our present water supplies will continue to be in ever shorter supply. Any reliable, efficient and effective methods of conserving our vital water supplies, would therefore beyond doubt be of great benefit.

Since domestic baths use so much water, parents of young children for example, have to use large quantities of water to bath their children - far more than is actually required, since the whole area of the bath has to be filled to the depth needed, when in fact a child may only take up a third of the area withii the bath.

This not only uses excessive quantities of both hot and cold water, but in additicn this uses extra gas or electricity to heat up this wasted amount of water and the expenditure tho.rec According to the present invention this excessive wastage of ;a er is eliminated by using a water saving bath divider. A water saving bath divider comprises of two seperate panels, means for releasably securing panels together, one panel being adapted to adjust to required width, and means for panels to be fixed firmly together.

The advantages of the invention are that the bath divider which forms a water-tight barrier, can be affixed in the required position within the bath according to the size of the child (or children) to be bathed. This therefore allows for the minimum amount of water only to be used, thus avoiding unnecessary wastage.

Another advantage is the financial saving of gas or electricity in using less hot water, also the financial cost of water in areas where water is metered. Most important cf all is the saving of l e Quantities of water, which overall would ur.doustedla ne or an enormous scalc.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the two panels together; Figure 2 shows an enlargement of a cross section of the bath divider; Figure 3 illustrates the two panels seperated; and Figure 4 shows an enlarged view of a section of the two panels together showing the centre rubber insert as seen from the top view.

Referring to the drawing the bath divider comprises of two seperate panels 1 with rubber inserts 2 releasably secured together by nuts 3 and bolts 8 with rubber washers 9.

In order to seperate the two panels as seen togcther in Fi. 1 release and remove the two nuts 3 also remove washers 9 in Fig. 3 thus allowing the two panels-to be seperated as shown in Fig. 3.

To reassemble the bath divider, bring the two panels 1 together, line up the two slots 6 of right panel in Fig. 3 over the two bolts 8 in left panel making sure that the guide lug 5 in right panel is inserted into centre groove 4 in left panel. Replace the washers 9 and nuts 3 onto the bolts 8.

Claims

1. A water saving bath divider comprises of two seperate panels, means for releasably securing panels together, one panel being adapted to adjust to required width, and means for panels to be fixed firmly together.

2. A water saving bath divider as claimed in Claim 1 whereon guide means are provided on right panel co-operable with left panel to control sliding movement of the two panels for adjusting the width before locking into position.

3. A water saving bath divider as claimed in Claims 1 or 2, whereon locking means are provided by nuts and bolts with rubber washers for securing the two panels together and thus forming cne complete rigid panel.

4. A water saving bath divider as claimed in Clar 3 whereon a centre dovetailed rubber insert is provided t form a water seal between the two panels when locked together.

5. A water saving bath divider as claimed in Claims 2 cr 4, whereon dovetailed rubber inserts with suction pads are provided around the curved edges and base of the divider with stop-ends to provide a water-tight barrier, and prevention of the divider from lifting upwards when affixed into position.

6. A water saving bath divider substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawing.
