Description
GOLF ACCESSORY
THIS INVENTION relates to a golf accessory.
According to one aspect of the invention there is provided a golf accessory which includes, in combination:
a pitch-mark repairer; and
a golf-club cleaning element.
The golf club cleaning element may be in the form of a brush comprising a plurality of transversely spaced apart sets of bristles each set comprising a plurality of bristles. The sets of bristles may be spaced apart on a common pitch, the pitch conveniently corresponding to the spacing between the grooves on the face of a golf-club.
The pitch-mark repairer may comprise a body having a handle portion for gripping by a user and a forked digging portion fast with the handle portion.
According to another aspect of the invention there is provided a golf accessory which includes
a body; and
a plurality of spaced apart sets of bristles connected to and protruding from the body, each set comprising a plurality of bristles with the spacing between the sets of bristles corresponding to the spacing between the grooves on the face of a golf-club.
The body may include a handle portion for gripping by a user from which the bristles protrude, and a forked digging portion fast with and protruding from the handle portion in a direction opposite to that of the bristles.
The handle portion and digging portion are typically moulded integrally of a synthetic plastics material such as polycarbonate. The bristles may be of nylon with their one ends being located in complementary holes in the body.
The invention will now be described by way of nonlimiting example with reference to the accompanying Figure.
In the Figure, reference numeral 10 generally indicates a golf accessory in accordance with the invention. The accessory 10 comprises a generally flat body 12 having an upper face 12.1 and a lower face 12.2. The body 12 includes a generally rectangular handle portion 14 Band a forked digging portion 16 connected to the handle portion 14. The digging portion 16 has arcuate edges 18 tapering inwardly from its connection with the handle portion 14 towards its free end. The digging portion 16 is divided into two prongs 20 by an elongate opening 22 extending inwardly from the free end of the digging portion 16 in the direction of the handle portion 14 thereby giving the body 12 the appearance of a two pronged fork. The thickness i.e. the distance between the upper face 12.1 and the lower face 12.2 of the prongs 20 diminishes in the direction of their free ends giving the prongs a sharpened appearance.
A gripping formation in the form of a hollow or depression 24 is provided on the upper face 12.1 of the handle portion 14 to receive a user's thumb and provide a comfortable grip for a person using the golf accessory.
Five sets of nylon bristles 26 protrude from the handle portion 14 of the body 12 of the golf accessory thereby forming a brush. The bristles 26 protrude from the handle portion 14 in a direction opposite to the direction in which the digging portion 16 protrudes. The spacing 28 between the sets of bristles 26 is generally the same as the spacing between the grooves on the face of a golf-club. The one or root ends of the bristles are secured, eg adhesively, in complementary holes (not shown) in the handle portion 14.
The handle portion 14 and digging portion 16 are moulded integrally of a durable synthetic plastics material such as polycarbonate.
In use, the prongs 20 of the body member 12 may be used as a pitch-mark repairer when a golf ball has left a pitch-mark after dropping onto a green. The golf accessory may then also be used to clean the grooves on the face of a golf-club by brushing out sand, soil or the like which has accumulated in the grooves with the brush of the golf accessory, the spacing of the
5 bristles enabling a user of the accessory to clean a number of grooves simultaneously.
