Abstract
A pressurised stream of air is created inside a vehicle using a compressor. The air is then forced through a tube from the compressor to the outer body of the vehicle. The tube or channel then runs along the outer shell of the vehicle. Along this length, at certain points, a series of nozzles are placed so that the air can escape, (still under pressure). By placing the nozzles fairly close together a 'curtain' of air is then produced. The purpose of this arrangement is to deflect snow, rain and other 'foreign bodies' from the vehicles wind-shield and thus increase the drivers general visibility. <IMAGE>
Description
PRESSURISED AIR SYSTEM TO IMPROVE DRIVING VISIBILITY
This invention relates to a pressurised air system that will reduce visibility problems when driving under many conditions.
One of the main hazards of driving a vehicle is reduced visibility due to rain, snow, dirt and to a lesser degree dead insects.
For road vehicles this problem is further exacerbated by the increased number of heavy trucks on our highways, which throw up blinding sheets of water, here even the most effective windscreen wipers are of little immediate benefit.
Clearly, there is a call for a more effective barrier to deflect rain, snow and other distracting items.
By installing an (electrical) air compressor in a vehicle and forcing the air out as a series of closely positioned jets, a wall of air can be created along various sections of the vehicle. This barrier will greatly reduce the amount of visible obstruction and hence improve both the safety and the comfort of the travellers.
An extra benefit of this system is a ready supply of compressed air for re-inflating tyres, powering various hand tools and the like.
Figure 1 shows how a motor car might have the systems installed.
Referring to the drawing the air is pressurised by the compressor A and fed through the tubes B. An outlet is available at C alternative use of the air. Otherwise the air is forced out of the nozzles E.
Claims (2)
1. A pressurised air system that improves driving
visibility by creating an air barrier to deflect snow,
water, dirt, insects etc from a windscreen.
i
2. A pressurised air system as claimed in Claim 1 where
the air is compressed by apparatus within the vehicle,
and circulated to the body of the vehicle.
The pressurised air as claimed in Claim 2 is then
forced through a series of closely aligned jets to form a curtain of pressurised air, which will inhibit
distracting matter from passing through and reducing
driving visibility 4. The pressurised air as claimed in Claim 2 is also
available for other general uses when vehicle is
stationary, for example inflating tyres or powering
pneumatic hand tools.
