High-potential switches; switches, quick-break. -A switch, particularly adapted for being mounted on a pole for use as a line disconnecting switch, has plug and socket contacts 20, 9 separable in an explosion chamber 10 which contains arc-extinguishing fluid and has an insulating tube 12 extending from it to a point outside the fluid, the contact 20 passing through the tube 12. The fluid may consist of oil, water or a mixture of water and glycerine. The chamber 10 is surrounded by a reservoir 13 and communicates with it by a hole 15. According to the construction of switch shown in the Figure, a bridge 21 carries two main contacts 27, 27<1> and two sparking-contacts 20 and is moved upwards to break the circuit by an operating rod 30 which is connected to the bridge by springs 34, 35 adapted to be compressed and stretched respectively. According to a modification, the two plug contacts 20 are stationary and the two socket contacts 9 and their associated parts are connected together and moved downwards to break circuit. The contacts 27, 27<1> are in this modification dispensed with.
