Abstract

Apparatus for handling material comprising a main housing (3) having a chamber (5) therein, the chamber (5) comprising a plurality of zones including a liquid reservoir zone (6) and a pre-filtering zone (4) having a filter (20) therein. Inlet means (8) operatively connectible to a work head (10) through which material can be delivered to the inlet means and into the chamber (5) and means (25) for developing an air flow through the apparatus so that material can be drawn via the work head (10) into the chamber (5). The arrangement is such that the apparatus can operate in a first mode of operation in which the inlet means (8) is adapted to deliver material to the pre-filtering zone (4) before liquid is transferred to the liquid reservoir zone (6) through the filter (20) and a second mode of operation in which the inlet means (8) delivers material directly to the liquid reservoir zone (6) and material is discharged from a delivery inlet (30) which, in use, is disposed below the surface of liquid in the liquid reservoir.
