Description
HOLTICULTURAL IT1PLE NT .
This invention relates to a horticultural implement and particularly hut not necessarily to a twin function implement.
Heretofore, rakes and hoes have heen provided as separate implements, and during gardening, one implement has to be set down to pick up and use the other.
An object of the present invention is to provide an implement capable of use as a ralre and as a hoe.
Accordingly, the present invention is a horticultural implement having a llea(l and a shaft, the head having a spine transverse of th shaft and from which a lengthwise series of tines extend outwardly and at right angles or substantially so to the shaft and having, at least at one end of the series of tines, a hoe blade.
Preferably, the blade is formed integrally with the end tine. Alternatively, the blade is separate from the end tine and secured thereto by fastenings.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows a perspective view of a head of a horticultural implement.
Referring to the drawing, a horticultural implement has a head 10 and a shaft 12. The head 10 has a spine 14 transverse of the shaft 12 and from which a lengthwise series of rigid tines 16, twelve as shown, extend outwardly and at right angles to the shaft 12.
At one end of the series of tines 16, a hoe blade 18 is provided. The blade 18 is separate from the end tine 16 and secured thereto hy fastenings 20 as shown hetween a plate 22 and a corresponding shaped extension of of the blade 18. The blade 18 has a shaped cutting edge.
In use, the implement is used as a rake with the tines 1 6 pointed downwardly and as a hoe with the hoe blade 1 8 pointed dossnwarA ly .
In a modification, the blade 1 n can be formed integrally with the end tine 16. In a further modification, the tines can extend out ot substantially at right angles to the shaft or may !re cranked adjacent their roots to the spine and then to extend outwardly at rig]it angles. In a third modification, a second hoe blade can !ze provided at the other end of the spine.
Variations and other modifications can be made without departing from tile scope of the invention above described.
Claims (5)
