Description

1 Electric Hoist This invention relates to an electric hoist, which can be
used for example in a material handling machine.
GFR Patent Specification No. 2601244 discloses a known rotary drum drive for a cable, which comprises a planetary reduction gear disposed inside a housing. The planetary reduction gear is connected to an electric motor disposed in front of a face of the drum, mounted on a support frame which is connected to the planetary reduction gear by means of an axis of its last stage. The housing is fastened to the drum by means of flanges.
Drawbacks of this known drive lie in its comparatively low reliability, resulting from the rigid connection between the planetary reduction gear and the support frame, and from the necessity of overdimensioning the drum, this being necessitated by the means of transmission of torque from the electric motor to the first stage of the planetary reduction gear.
According to the present invention there is provided an electric hoist comprising a rotary drum seated in a stationary support frame, and an electric motor mounted at an end face of the support frame and coupled to drive a planetary reduction gear having a rotary housing which is disposed totally inside the drum and which is connected by means of a gear diaphragm and a cooperable gear ring to rotate the drum, the gear ring being formed as an integral part of the drum, and wherein the stationary support frame is connected by means of a connecting shaft and spline couplings thereon to a stationary planetary cage of the planetary reduction gear.
A preferred embodiment of the present invention provides an electric hoist with increased reliability of the drum drive, and with a design with reduced size i and therefore reduced consumption of metal.
The preferred embodiment provides an increased reliability resulting from an elastic (or at least nonrigid) connection between the stationary planetary cage of the planetary reduction gear on the one hand, and the stationary support frame on the other hand, by means of the aforementioned connecting shaft.
Moreover, a reduced overall size of the drum may result from the particularly provided drive connection between the shaft of the electric motor and the first stage of the planetary reduction gear.
For a better understanding of the present invention and to show how it may be put into effect, reference will now be made by way of example to the accompanying drawing, which is a partial crosssectional view of a preferred embodiment of an electric hoist according to the present invention.
The illustrated electric hoist comprises a threestage planetary reduction gear 1 which is disposed inside a rotary housing 2 forming the outer rotary annulus of the planetary reduction gear 1. Three central sun gears of the three stages of the planetary reduction gear 1 are aligned with one another and connected by means of a clutch 3 to an electric motor 4 mounted beyond one end face of a rotary drum 5 upon which a cable is to be wound. The rotary housing 2 is disposed totally inside the drum 5.
The motor 4 is mounted at an end face of a stationary support frame 6, and the drum 5 is seated within the stationary support frame 6. An elastic (or at least non-rigid) connection is made between the support frame 6 and the planetary reduction gear 1 by means of a connecting shaft 12 having splined couplings 13 and 14 at its opposite ends. The splined coupling 13 connects the shaft 12 to the final stage of the planetary reduction gear 1, this end of the shaft 12 0 1 4 1 1 being splined to a stationary socket 11 forming part of the stationary planetary cage of the planet wheels of this last planetary stage 8. A single planet wheel of this last planetary stage 8 is shown in section, this wheel rotating about a fixed shaft 7 and transmitting rotation from the associated central sun gear to the rotary housing 2 in a reverse direction and at a lower rotational speed when the hoist is in operation.
This described non-rigid connection between the support frame 6 and the planetary reduction gear 1 provides a torsionally resilient coupling between the final gear stage 8 and the support frame 6, thus reducing shocks during operation of the hoist.
At its opposite end, the rotary housing 2 is connected to the drum 5 by means of a gear diaphragm 9 and a cooperable gear ring 10 which is formed as an integral part of the drum 5. The rotary housing 2 is locked to the drum 5 in order to rotate the latter, by the gear diaphragm 9 and the gear ring 10 being frontally locked to rotate together at the same speed. The drum 5 is mounted by means of bearings 15 within the support frame 6 for rotation thereon.
The described electric hoist operates as follows:
Cable is wound on to, or unwound from, the rotary drum 5 when the torque of the electric motor 4 is transmitted via clutch 3, and the stages of the planetary reduction gear 1, to the housing 2. This torque is then transmitted by the gear diaphragm 9 and the gear ring 10 to the drum 5. Since the stationary planetary cage for the last stage 8 of the planetary reduction gear 1 is connected resiliently to the support frame 6 by means of the connecting shaft 12 and its spline couplings 13 and 14 as has been described, the drum 5 receives a smooth rotational motion.
