Abstract

March 15, 1923 Systems for conversion, employing rotary converters.-In an automatic substation or other installation with two or more converters each having its own exciter, the field windings and exciters of aLl the converters in operation are connected in series. An installation with three converters 1 - - 3 having field windings 4 - - 6 and exciters 7 - - 9 mounted on the shafts of the converters is shown, the field windings and exciters being all connected in series through a conductor 10. Short-circuit paths round each of the exciting systems are provided by conductors 11 - - 15 and switches 16 - - 18 as shown, these paths being opened at the corresponding switch after each converter has been brought into operation. One of the provisional Specifications describes a modified arrangement in which bridging conductors with switches are placed between the junction points of each exciting group and the conductor 10. In this arrangement, the switches may be shunted by resistances if it is desired that an incoming cold machine should take more than its actual share of the load.
