Abstract
212,401. Gregson, P. Feb. 26, 1923. Rasping - apparatus: mills and apparatus.- Apparatus for disintegrating compressed bales of granular material such as cork and the like comprises a number of tearing or scraping members 8 mounted on one or more travelling endless bands 7 carried on rollers and adapted to move vertically downwards to tear or scrape the surface of the bale, the members 8 being in the form of angle - irons one side of which carries, or is serrated to form, sharp nointed teeth 9, while the other side is attached to the endless band or bands. The bales are pushed forwards on a downwardly-sloping plate 10 at the rear of the apparatus. The endless bands pass over top and bottom rollers 4, 5 carried in bearings 3 between uprights 2, and the lower roller 5 is driven by means of a pulley 6 so that the members 8 move downwards against the bales, the disintegrated material falling on to a curved plate 11 and passing down a sloping plate 12 to the front of the machine. Auxiliarv rollers 13, 14 hold up the bands 7 and members 8 against the face of the bale, and a guard-plate 15 may be mounted between the uprights to prevent the material from falling upon the roller 5. The apparatus may be enclosed within a casing 17 having openings 18, 19 for the passage of the bales and the disintegrated material respectively.
