Abstract

Surgeon's Helmask is a one-piece helmet and mask for use in clinical, medical and surgical situations. The Surgeon's Helmask eliminates the gaps that are present when the traditional surgeon's cap and mask are used, and therefore minimises the risk of infection. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Surgeon's helmask Surgeon's helmask is a one-piece helmet and mask for use in operating theatres etc. It is made of fabric or non-woven fabric and is composed of five pieces; top, body, mask and the ties. The mask is lined with further fabric. It is made up as shown in Figure 1.
There are ventillation holes at the sides of the Helmask. The ties are brought round the neck and tied at the front.
There are several important advantages over the traditional surgeon's cap and separate mask. The Surgeon's Helmask is cheaper to manufacture than the cap and separate mask. It is more comfortable to wear and easier to fasten. It is much more hygienic, since it minimises the risk of scurf from the surgeon's hair dropping on to the patient, which is a very marked risk with the traditional surgeon's cap which leaves much of the surgeon's hair exposed.
The Surgeon's Helmask, on the other hand, is suitable for covering all the hair of surgeons, including women with very long hair and men with beards, and so would prevent many cases of postoperative infection.
