Abstract
A grate block for the grate section of an incinerator plant consisting of two parallel side boards (2, 3), which are connected to each other by transverse tie rods (4), and of a number of grate bars (5) adapted to be placed loosely over the tie rods (4). The grate bars (5) together fill the space between the two side boards (2, 3). Through-going apertures (6) are formed in the side surfaces of the grate bars (5), which apertures form air passages (7) from the bottom side of the grate bars (5) to the top side, on which the garbage intended for combustion is conveyed. The apertures (6) are conic with the point placed at the top side of the grate bars (5). By using this grate block clogging of the air passages is avoided. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION A grate block for a grate section of an incinerator plant
This invention relates to a grate block for the grate section of an incinerator plant and of the type which consists of two parallel side boards being mutually connected by transverse tie rods and of a number of grate bars placed movably over said tie rods, which together fill out the space between the two side boards.
It has been known for a long time to use grate blocks of the above-mentioned design as a basic element in the stepped grates used in incinerator plants which consist of a number of stepped grates, usually three, arranged staggered and in steps and of a subsequent revolving furnace, in which the complete combustion takes place. The first stepped grate is placed under a supply shaft for refuse and garbage, and garbage intended for combustion that is placed on this grate will be carried forward and simultaneously whirled up and dried. On the subsequent stepped-grate the garbage is dried further and an ignition of the dried garbage takes place. On the third stepped grate an initial combustion of the garbage takes place succeeded by a complete combustion made in the revolving furnace.
The grate blocks are adapted to be placed on grate beams extending in direction of the advance of the garbage through the incinerator plant. In a preferred embodiment, every second row of the grate blocks placed in succession are adapted to move forwards and backwards in the advance path of the garbage, while the intermediate rows of grate blocks are stationary.
In the previously known stepped grates, the air supply necessary for the combustion and the drying has been produced by suction of air from the bottom side of the grate blocks to the top side of same by air passage between the loosely placed grate bars.
However, it has become apparent that this design does not secure a reliable air supply, as during certain working conditions the grate bars may as a consequence of the strong local heating and clogging with ashes from the burnt garbage cause a blocking up of the air passages.
It is the object of this invention to show a grate block which is constructed by easily removable grate bars and which permits a reliable air passage from the bottom side of the grate blocks to the top side of same during all possible working conditions.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by a grate block of the type mentioned in the introduction and characterized in that throughgoing hollows are formed in the side faces of the grate bars making air passages from the bottom side of the grate bars to the top side on which the garbage intended for combustion is conveyed.
By means of this simple feature, it is accomplished that without major alterations of the construction of the-grate blocks.an effective area of passage is secured which is relatively large
compared to the total surface of the grate blocks.
According to the invention, the apertures in the side surfaces of the grate bars can be conical with the point placed at the top side of the grate bars.
It is thereby achieved that the precipitated ash particles when placed opposite the apertures at the top side of the grate block facing the garbage will pass on through the grate bars.
In the following the invention will be further explained with reference to the drawing, in which
Fig. 1 shows an inclining view of the grate block formed in accordance with the invention,
Fig. 2 the same, but without grate bars, and
Fig. 3 a grate bar adapted for placement over the tie rods of the grate block.
The assembled grate block shown in fig. 1 has the reference number 1, collectively. The block is adapted to be placed over two parallel grate beams extending in the advance direction of the garbage, as a number of uniformly designed grate blocks are placed in succession. The adjacent rows of grate blocks are also placed on two parallel extending grate beams, and a number of such rows of grate blocks form in combination the stepped grate section or the so-called grate carpet.
It is shown in figure 2 that the grate block 1 consists of two parallel side boards 2, 3, between which tie rods 4 are placed. Furthermore, it appears from figure 2 that the grate block is provided with supports in which openings are formed for bolts which serve to secure the grate blocks to the underlying grate beams.
Figure 3 shows a grate bar 5 formed in accordance with the invention, which bar at its top side is provided with a cam-like projection in which apertures 6 are formed in the side surfaces.
As it appears from the drawing, the apertures 6 are conically pointed in direction towards the top side of the grate bars.
The invention is not limited to the features just shown and described, and it should be noted in particular that the apertures 6 in the side faces of the grate bars may have an arbitrary appropriate form.
1. A grate block suitable for a grate section of an incinerator plant, which comprises two parallel side boards connected to each other by transverse tie rods and a number of grate bars adapted to be loosely placed over the tie rods and which together fill up the space between the two side boards, through-going apertures being formed in the side surfaces of the grate bars, which apertures form air passages from the bottom side of the grate bars to the top side on which refuse and garbage intended for combustion is conveyed.
2. A grate block according to Claim 1, wherein the apertures are conic with the point at the top side of the grate bars.
