Abstract

A device to make a book stay open comprises a recessed body portion which clips over the book pages formed with a laterally extending arm. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Device to make a book stay open This invention is a manually operable contrivance for stopping a book from closing by itself.
It is common knowledge that when a reader while reading a book has to free his hands, it is very awkward for him to keep the book open at the page he is reading. Usually he has three recourses open to him: (1) roll the pages already read or pages to be read, whichever is the lesser of the two, under the other part and place it on a flat surface. This could result in a situation the reader has a rolled over page which is being read and is awkward to read.
(2) Put a paper weight or similar object in between the two sections of the book.
(3) Use some contrivance to do the job.
Devices currently available to keep a book open are cumbersome to use.
This invention tackles the problem in a new way where some pages of the book are held in the recess of one part of the device, while the other part of the book is held under the lateral extending strip from the recessed part. There are no moving parts of the contrivance. It is very easy to use. The device is light in weight and small in size, and it can be very conveniently carried in a pocket.
We have found out that by using this new device books that do not stay open by themselves can be made to do so and the readers hands are free to do whatever he/she may like to do at the same time-e.g.
(a) take notes while reading (b) prepare meals while using recipe books (c) enjoy a meal while reading Figure 1 is a perspective of the embodiment, Figure 2 shows two ways of using the embodiment.
The contrivance illustrated consists of a recessed part with laterally extending arm.
Claims
1. A manually operable device for keeping a book open, comprising of a recessed part with a laterally extending arm.
2. A device as described in Claim 1 in which extended arm of the device rests on one part of the opened book while some pages from the other part of the opened book are inserted in the recess of the other part of the device.
3. A device as described in Claim 1 or Claim 2 manufactured out of transparent or semitransparent plastic material.
4. A device as described in Claim 1 or Claim 2 manufactured from metals or alloys.
