Abstract

Apparatus has a known operating head assembly bearing the thread feeding vertical needle 2 with a hook member 4 or crochet mounted at the top of a slanted arm 6 which can swing in a plane about the horizontal axis of the hook member. A further arm 7 is rotatably coupled to a bushing affixed, with the horizontal axis thereof coinciding with that of the hook member, on the front wall of a vertical support, the bushing encompassing a bevel gear 8 effective to transmit motion to the hook member. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Apparatus for sewing shoes The present invention relates to an apparatus for sewing shoes.
As it is well known, in the presently available apparatus for sewing shoes, the hook member, or "crochet", which cooperates with the apparatus needle for forming the stitches, is mounted at the top of a horizontal fixed column.
That construction makes very difficult the shoe sewing work, in particular at the shoe toe, because of the toe shape which prevents said hook member from properly piercing the corresponding zone.
Moreover, at the curved portions of the shoes, mainly consisting of the toe and heel thereof, it is difficult to easily cause the shoe to slide on the hook member bearing head, thereby the stitches formed at those regions are of different or uneven lengths.
Accordingly, the task of the present invention is to overcome the thereinabove mentioned drawbacks, by providing such a shoe sewing apparatus, which is effective to afford the possibility of easily sewing both the toe of the shoe and the side regions and heel whereof.
Within that task, it is a main object of the present invention to provide such a shoe sewing apparatus which affords the possibility of properly and evenly making stitches, even at the shoe strongly curved regions.
Another object of the present invention is to provide such a shoe sewing apparatus which is very simple construction-wise and reliable in operation.
According to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a shoe sewing apparatus, comprising a conventional operating head assembly, of the triple transport type, bearing the thread feeding vertical needle, characterized in that the hook member is mounted at the top of a slanted arm effective to swing in a plane about the horizontal axis of said hook member.
The invention will now be described further by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the shoe sewing apparatus according to the invention; Figure 2 illustrates the swingable arm bearing the hook member or crochet of the subject shoe sewing apparatus or machine; Figures 3, 4, 5 and 6 illustrate some steps of the sewing of a reinforcement or stiffening band, along the lower edge of a shoe of the sport type; and Figure 7 represents the finished shoe.
With reference to the figures of the accompanying drawings, the shoe sewing apparatus or machine according to the present invention comprises an operating head 1, of substantially known type, bearing the sewing needle 2, said operating head being mounted cantilever-wise on a vertical support 3, of suitable length.
With the mentioned needle a hook member cooperates, indicated at 4, which may be of the butterfly type, in order to operate with a continuous thread, or of the bobbin type, in order to carry out a knotted stitch; the mentioned hook member is mounted at the top 5 of a slanted arm 6, the lower end whereof is made rigid with a second arm 7, effective to swing in a vertical plane.
To that end, the mentioned second arm is coupled rotatably to a bushing which is affixed, with its horizontal axis coinciding with that of said member 4, on the front portion of said support 3 and encompasses a bevel gear 8, effective to transmit motion, through suitable transmission or driving members, to said hook member.
The latter, in actual practice, by exploiting the swingable capability of the arm 7, causes the shoe 9 to be properly moved under the sewing needle 2, at the strongly curved regions of the lower edge of said shoe (Figs. 5 and 6).
Thus the sewing stitches 10, carried out through the shoe, are evenly spaced from one another, and of smooth aspect.
It is further possible to provide the operating head 1 with a vertically extending rod 11, adjoining the pressing foot 1 2.
That rod will bear, at the lower end whereof, a roller 13, or other suitable sliding member, effective to bias the band 1 4 to be applied to the shoe, during the sewing operation, to cause the latter to be evenly applied.
From the above disclosure and the observation of the figures of the accompanying drawings, it will be clear that the invention fully achieves the intended objects.
While the invention has been thereinabove disclosed with reference to a preferred embodiment thereof, it should be apparent that it is susceptible to several modifications and variations, without departing from the scope whereof as it is defined in the appended
claims.
