Poultry, killing.-In a device for killing poultry, the upper part of the beak is placed in a cap 6 secured to the member 2 which is passed into the mouth, the opposing member 1 bearing on the head. A piercing-tool 4 is projected into the head adjacent to the beak and a cutter 5 cuts the artery, and in the form described the tool 4 and cutter 5 operate in succession. The device comprises members 1, 2, the member 1 being hookshaped and U-form in section at 25, and connected by a leaf-spring to the member 2. The tools 4, 5 work respectively through centrally, disposed and laterally displaced slots 22, 7 in the member 2, when the members 1, 2 are brought together by the action of a member 3 pivoted at 10 to an extension 1<b> of the member 1. The hook portion 25 has a central slot 23 and strengthening ribs. The member 2 has a protuberance 17 which engages a lug 11 on the member 3 whereby the members 1, 2, approach one another when the handles 28 are moved against the spring 24. The piercing-tool 4 is pivoted on a pin 9 on the member 3, the pin 9 working in a slot 8 in the cutter 5 which is moved, after delayed action, against the pull of a spring 12. The cap 6, which may be dispensed with, is slotted at 21 and is adjustable by a screw 19. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the beak is placed in the cap 6 and the head positioned between the members 1, 2, the tool 4 piercing the head and the cutter 5 cutting the throat. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
