Abstract

A device for measuring the cross dimensions of transparent and translucent filamentous articles comprises a source (1) of monochromatic coherent radiation on the optical axis (2) of which the inspected filamentous article (3) is placed in a holder (4) at right angles to the optical axis (2). The device comprises as well a filamentous body (5) non-transparent for the monochromatic coherent radiation of which the cross dimensions are equal or smaller than those of the inspected article (3), that body being placed in the holder (4), together with the article (3), by means of guides (6) for positioning the filamentous body parallel to the inspected article in a plane passing through the optical axis. The radiation flow which passes through the peripherical zones of the inspected article (3), the central zone of which is screened with the filamentous body (5), and the radiation flow reflected from the article (3) are both received by a photodetector (7) connected to an analizer (8) for evaluating the cross dimensions of the article through its diffraction pattern.
