Abstract

Rods and bars.-Relates to the manufacture of woven reed articles, the invention consisting in the means for covering with reed or reed-like strands the frame members to which the wovenreed sheets are secured. According to the invention, the frame members, before assembly, are wrapped with the covering material by the aid of the machine shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The frame member 39 is passed into an opening 15 in a plate 7 mounted on the table 1 and is there engaged by the grooved edges of wrapping wheels 12, 13, mounted on the plate. The pivots about which these wheels revolve are set in an inclined manner in the plate so that the wheels which are driven by gearing from the power wheel 4, whilst causing the rotation of the frame member also cause it to be fed forwardly, i.e. to the left, in Fig. 2. A strand of wrapping material 16, drawn from a drum 26, passes through a guide 10 and over an idle wrapping-wheel 11, which is also mounted in an inclined manner relatively to the plate, upon bracket 9, and urged downwardly by means of a spring 22, and so passes to the frame member, to which its free end is attached. When frame members of other than circular cross-section and not readily directly rotatable by the wrapping wheels are to be wrapped, an auxiliary device is employed in conjunction with the wrapping wheels, consisting of a pulley 34, Fig. 2<a>, adapted to receive a tubular die 37 of a crosssection corresponding with that of the member to be wrapped, the member being passed through it.
