Abstract
The hitch lock comprises lower (2) and upper (1) steel discs to cover the eye ring. The lower disc (2) includes a peg (3) and the upper disc 1 includes an aperture through which the peg may pass. A lock (4) through holes in the end of the peg (3) prevents removal of the device. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Hitch lock
The invention is a Hitch Lock.
This invention is an anti-theft security lock for trailers and mobile compressors. In the past, we and many others, have had expensive compressors stolen from building and work sites as well as machines left by the roadsides un-attended, when it was madeeasy for unauthorised persons to tow away un-secured machines. This lock fits the towing pin hitch of contractors plant, that is trailers and mobile compessors, so that they may be secured on site.
This hitch lock, which is cheap as well as efficient is also provided with a chain, attaching it to the draw bar of the machine, so that it remains attached to the machine even when the lock is not in use and is always to hand when a locking devise is needed.
The lock itself consists of 2 steel discs I & BR< 2 of 2" thickness or steel pressings of suitable sizes, the lower disc will have a I" steel bar 3 of 3" height welded on it which may be round or square as shown in Figs. 1 & .
The top disc will be of a similar pattern but with a hole in it to take the lower peg 3. The peg itself having 2 holes drilled through to receive the appropriate lock 4 as shown in
Fig. 3. We believe this to be a cheap and effective way to deter contractors plant being towed away by un-authorised personnel. A specific embodiment of this invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure I. Shows the position of the hitch lock in relation to the compressor hitch.
Figure 2. An enlargement of the hitch lock in relation to the compressor Hitch.
Figure 3. Shows how the lock will fasten in the surface area of the hitch.
1. A hitch lock comprising of 2 steel discs or steel presings of suitable sizes, the lower disc having a steel bar welded on, the top disc with a hole to take the lower peg. The peg itself being drilled twice to receive the appropriate lock.
2. The lock fits around the hitch of the mobile contractors plant, machines and trailers.
3. The hitch lock as claimed in I) and 2) deters unauthorised personnel towing away machines and trailers by making it exceedingly difficult if not impossible to remove the lock when not in possession of key from authorised persons.
4. The hitch lock can be attached to the draw bar of the machine by a chain, even when the lock is not in use, so always being at hand when a locking facility is needed.
5. Production costs on the hitch lock are relatively low because of its simplicity to produce, therefore it is a cheap and efficient securing method for mobile machines and trailers.
