Abstract

A combined wheelbarrow and garden roller comprises a chassis 3, a box-like body 1 and a cylindrical roller 2 removably mounted to the chassis. Rollers of different diameters and lengths may be used (Fig. 4) and may be hollow metal or plastics cylinders or solid wood or plastics cylinders. Sleeves 4 (Fig. 5) of various lengths may be used to enable rollers of different lengths (including a wheel) to be accommodated. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Wheelbarrow roller This invention relates to a combined garden wheelbarrow and garden roller.
Wheelbarrows are wellknown vehicles which comprise a single wheeled chassis by which a container is secured. It is commonly used to move loose garden materials.
Garden rollers are also well known (but not so commonly used) as appliances for rolling garden surfaces, lawns, paths and freshly sown areas. The roller consists of a heavy cylinder and a chassis/handle. Wheelbarrows and rollers are relatively costly and as garden millers are rarely used; few households bother to have them. Old type lawnmowers with rollers used to do the job satisfactorily. The modern type grasscutters are very lightweight and do not roll the grass as well as the old lawnmowers/rollers.
My invention provides a wheelbarrow/roller conbination comprising a chassis and wheelbarrow container, but instead of a wheel there is a lightweight cylinder; the chassis being adapted to accommodate different lengths of rollers.
The positioning of the fixation points for the cylinder are brought closer to the centre of gravity of the fully loaded wheelbarrow. The fixing points of the chassis to hold the fixing points are made so that they can be removed and changed. Different sizes of cylinders can be put on, hence the pressure of the roller on the ground can be varied according to the' need by using different cylinder sizes. Also the pressure of the cylinder on the ground can be varied by the amount of earth or any other load the wheeibarrow container is holding.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 Shows in perspective the original wheelbarrow Figure 2 Shows in perspective the garden roller Figure 3 Shows the angle view of the wheelbarrow roller Figure 4 Shows the possible variability of the rollers that can be used.
Figure 5 Shows the original wheelbarrow wheel with washers 4 placed in their position.
Referring to the drawing, the wheelbarrowroller comprises a chassis (3); body in the form of a box (1); and a cylinder (roller) (2).
In order to be able to change the cylinder to a different size or to replace the original wheelbarrow wheel, the means to secure the roller or wheel are provided; the means of securing can be adapted, the same as the means used in bicyle wheel changes.
The cylinders or rollers can be manufactured in different sizes (Fig. 4) varying in the cylinders lengths A. B. C. or the cylinders diameters A, A2, A3.
To avoid making the large cylinder too heavy, a hollow cylinder can be produced, providing that its structure is sturdy enough to sustain the optimum pressure. Shorter cylinders, or cylinders smaller in diameter can be manufactured solid from plastic or wood. The corresponding washers can also be manufactured as follows:- Fig. 4. In different lengths for extending the required length of the cylinder. These are mostly necessary to convert the ordinary wheelbarrow into the Wheelbarrow-roller. The task could be easily performed by an ordinary handyman.
The size of the container, the cylinders and the cylinders' position in relation to the centre of gravity of the heavy loaded, mostly full wheelbarrow has to be evaluated.
1-. A Wheelbarrow-roller comprising a chassis with a cylinder or a roll; a body in the form of a box; means of securing a cylinder or roll to the chassis; and means for easily making changes in size of cylinders.
2. A Wheelbarrow-roller as claimed in Claim 1 wherein cylinder or rolls of different sizes in length and diameter are provided.
3. A wheelbarrow roller as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2-a means for adapting the original wheelbarrow wheel small rolls of varying size (washers) are provided CLAIMS Amendments to the claims have been filed, and have the following effect: Claims 1-3 above have been deleted or textually amended.
New or textually amended claims have been filed as follows:- 1. A combined wheelbarrow and garden roller comprising a chassis, a box-like container body supported by the chassis, handle means extending from the rear end of the chassis, and a cylindrical roller removably mounted from the forward end of the chassis for contact with the ground.
2. A combined wheelbarrow and garden roller according to Claim 1, including a spindle mounted from the forward end of the chassis upon which the roller is mounted between tubular spacers.
3. A combined wheelbarrow and garden roller according to Claim 1 or 2, provided with a plurality of rollers-of different diameters and/or lengths for mounting from the chassis.
4. A combined wheelbarrow and garden roller according to Claim 3 which is further provided with a wheel to replace the roller.
5. A combined wheelbarrow and garden roller substantially as described with reference to Figs. 3, 4 and 5 of the drawings.
