Abstract

219,207. Turner, E. W. Sept. 15, 1923. Rotary distributors ; contacts. - The rotating spring-pressed brushes of ignition distributors are shaped at their outer ends to effect a cleaning or scraping action on the fixed contact raceway, uneven wear being prevented by providing means to hold the brush against rotation in its holder. The rotary brush holder 11 is secured to the distributor shaft by the sleeve 10 and has a parallel socket 12 for accommodating the carbon brush 13. The brush 13 is of cylindrical formation but has a recess 14 formed in its inner end into which projects the spring 15 contained within the recess 12 which presses the outer end of the brush against the fixed contact raceway. This outer end is bevelled from opposite sides to form a substantially rectangular contact surface 16 disposed crossways of the fixed contact raceway whereby the leading edge scrapes off any dirt, oil &c. which may collect on the raceway. Rotation of the brush 13 in its holder is prevented by a screw 18 which projects into a slot 17 formed in the side of the brush 13.
