Abstract

A trailer frame "A" with a pivot system "B" at its leading end has single suspended wheel "C" at its centre to support the luggage weight. The trailer is designed such that when it is located into the trailer bracket by means of a shaft, and the bracket then bolted to a standard tow bar of a vehicle, the trailer would be prevented from pivoting in any plane, relative to the towing vehicle other than that arrowed X-Y. The central wheel is located and suspended by a modified rubber spring type suspension unit of the "indespension" type. Provision is made for the removeable attachment of various luggage trays etc. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Single wheel luggage trailer This invention relatesto a single wheel luggage trailer with removeable luggage tray.
According to this invention there is provided a trailerframe supported at its leading end by pivot bushes, and at its centre by a single wheel and suspension system.
The pivot system at the leading end ofthetrailer frame prevents the trailer from tipping sideways, relative to the towing vehicle, by being located, by means of a pivot shaft/shafts, into the trailer bracket highlighted in Figure 5 (Sheet 4/4) The trailer bracket is bolted directly to a standard tow hitch of a vehicle.
The luggage tray is removeably bolted to the trailerframe.
The drawings will provide a clear illustration of this invention: Figure 1 (Sheet 1/4) shows in perspective the trailerframe "A", the pivot bushes "B" and also the central single wheel "C". The luggage tray has been simplified and dotted in for clarity, denoted by letter "E".
Figure2 (Sheet2/4) shows a side view, relativeto thetowing vehicle, ofthetrailerand thetowing bracket. The luggage tray (Figure 4 sheet4/4) is in position. Also shown by the arrow X-Y is the only permissable pivot plane of the trailerframe. Tipping in any other plane is prevented by the trailer bracket (Figure 5 Sheet 4/4).
Figure 3 (Sheet 3/4) shows a rear view of the trailer relative to a towing vehicle. The luggage tray is in position.
Figure 4 (Sheet 4/4) shows in perspective a removeable luggage tray.
Figure 5 (Sheet 4/4) shows in perspective the trailer bracket which is made such that the bracket can be bolted directly onto a standard vehicle towbar.
The trailer is mounted into the trailer bracket by inserting a shaft or shafts through the plates on the trailer bracket and through the pivot bushes welded to the trailer frame. The single central wheel is located and suspended by the use of a modified rubber spring type of suspension unit of the "indespension" (RTM)type.
Referring to Figure 2 (Sheet 2/4) the suspension unit is denoted by the letter " D" and the suspended wheel movement denoted by the arrow M-N. The pivot bushes "B" areweldedtothetrailerframe "A".
1. A sing le wheel trailer comprising ofatrailer frame, with pivot bushes welded to its leading end, and a single suspended central wheel. The trailer being attachable to a special trailer bracket Figure 5 (Sheet 4/4) and the bracket being attachable to a standard tow hitch, such that when the trailer frame and bracket are mountedthetrailercan only pivot in one plane relative to the towing vehicle, arrowed X-Y Figure 2 (Sheet 2/4).
2. Asinglewheel trailer as claimed in Claim 1 wherein a luggage tray can be removeablyaftached to the trailer frame, and thus allow luggage etc. to be carried on the trailer.
3. Asingle wheel trailer as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the single central wheel is located and suspended bya modified rubberspringtype suspension unit of the "indespion" type.
4. Asinglewheel trailerasclaimed in Claim 1, wherein a steel spring type of suspension and location system is provided forthe single wheel.
5. Asinglewheei trailer as claimed in Claim 1 wherein various, and varied, forms and types of luggage tray/container are provided for.
