Abstract

Apparatus for conditioning grass or other fibrous fodder crop comprises a mobile frame and two co-operating rotors (11 and 12) mounted for rotation about parallel axes for passage of crop between the rotors. A lower (11) is mounted for rotation about an axis parallel to the ground for picking up and conditioning crop and carrying the crop upwardly and rearwardly over the rotor, and a second rotor (12) is positioned at a higher level than and forwardly of the lower rotor and is arranged to press crop against the pointed tips of crop engaging elements (10) on the lower rotor (11). The upper rotor (12) may have triangular cross-section ribs (61), which may be continuous or serrated along the axis of the rotor. Alternatively the upper rotor (12) may have planar elements (23) having an outer portion inclined to a radial plane. The upper rotor (12) may be mounted on spring loaded pivotable support arms (64) to allow the spacing between the rotors (11 and 12) to vary with crop load.
