Abstract

The appliance has a case assembly 11 which is fitted onto guide rails 10 which are so made their shape holds the case 11 to them and powered gears in the back of the case 11 engage into slots in the rails 10 enabling the case 11 to climb or descend the rails when they are fixed to a wall in a vertical position. A disc 12 at the front of the case 11 is driven by a motor within the case 11 the disc 12 can be removed from the drive shaft allowing either a brush disc or a massage disc to be used. The appliance is controlled by a control cable and switch assembly 13 and the power is supplied by rechargeable cells contained in a cylindrical cartridge which locates through the bottom of the case. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Mobile Powered Back Scrubber/Massage Appliance This invention relates to a mobile powered back scrubber/massage appliance.
As far as it can be ascertained no appliance exists similar to the one described in these papers. The basic parts of the appliance comprise of shaped and slotted guide rails, the moulded plastic case in which the power pack and mechanical parts are housed together with the electrical circuits, warning light, micro switches and control cable and switch assembly, and the brush disc on the massage disc located onto the drive shaft protruding through the front of the case.
According to the present invention there is provided: Guide rails which are secured vertically to a suitable wall of a shower or bath, the rails are not only guides but have in their design gear slots along there length which allow gears mounted in the back of the case assembly to engage into the slots, the rails are shaped in section so that when the case assembly is located onto them it held to them. The gears are driven by a motor which enables the case assembly to climb up or down the rails under power.
At the front of the case assembly is a disc onto which are fitted a number of brushes, the disc is located onto the drive shaft which protrudes through the front of the case and is held in position by a retaining device. A motor within the case drives through a reduction gear and crank assembly the drive shaft which rotates approximately 100 degrees in one direction and the reversed the same distance in the other direction. At the bottom of the case hangs a control cable at the end of which is an easy hold waterproof switch assembly containing switches to control the disc and the up and down movement of the appliance.
The powerforthe motors is supplied by rechargeable cells which are housed in a cylindrical cartridge which locates through the bottom of the case, the cartridge rotates approximateiy a quarter turn which makes contact with the electrical circuits within the appliance, and at the same time cam lugs engage and seal the cartridge in place.
Charging the cells requires the cartridge to be withdrawn and taken to a convenient power supply, recharging via a recharger unit.
There is in the case a small indicator light which glows when the cells require charging.
At the top of the case is a waterproof micro switch which cuts off the power when the appliance reaches the limit of its upward travel, where it stays when not in use.
The disc holding the brushes can be removed and replaced by another having soft moulded pads which can be used to massage the back.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the appliance located on its rails, with the brush disc fitted.
Figure 2 shows the location of the climbing gear the disc drive gear the power cartridge and the control switch assembly.
Figure 3 shows how the climbing gears locate into the slotted rails and the brush disc with only two brush heads shown to aid clarity.
Figure 4 shows how the rails locate into the back of the case.
Figure 5 shows the alternative massage disc with its soft moulded pads.
Referring to the drawing Fig. 1 the appliance comprises:- the shaped slotted rails 10 the case 11 locates onto the rails 10, at the front of the case 11 is a disc 12 onto which are fixed a number of brushes 17 the disc is held in place by a holding device 16 there is a low charge warning light 14 which warns when the cells require recharging, and a micro switch 15 which cuts off the power when the limit of the upward travel is reached. A control cable and switch assembly 13 hangs down from the bottom of the case 11.
Drawing Fig. 2 shows the motor 20 which drives gears 21 which engage in the rail slots and enable case 11 to travel up or down the rails 10, motor 22 drives through a gear and crank to drive shaft 25 which protrudes through the front of case 11 onto which is fitted either the brush disc 12 or the massage disc 18.
The power cell cartridge locates through the bottom of the case 11 and is secured by turning a quarter turn making contact with the electrical circuits within the case 11 and secured by holding lugs 24.
Drawing Fig. 3 shows how the gears 21 engage into the rails driven by motor 20 only two brush heads 17 are shown on disc 12forclarity. Drawing Fig. 4 shows how the rails 10 fit into the rear of case 11. Drawing Fig. 5 shows the disc 12 with the soft moulded pads 18 when the appliance is used for massage purposes.
