Abstract

Submarine vessels.-To enable a gun mounted on the upper surface of a submarine to be brought into action without exposing such upper surface, a non-recoil gun 6 is mounted on the roof of a watertight support 2 such as the conning-tower which itself extends well above the deck 1. The gun is provided with a device 12 to neutralize recoil and is raised and lowered by a pneumatic cylinder 8 from a compartment formed by a spray-shield 3. The gun is fed with ammunition by a hoist 16 driven by a motor 18, the ammunition being passed through a hinged cover 19 and stored in receptacles 20. The gun is worked from a platform 15 trainable with the gun and provided with openings to receive shells 22 when the platform is lowered.
