Abstract

216,756. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., (Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co.). Aug. 31, 1923. Resistances.-A refractory resistance supporting member for a furnace or the like consists of a plane or cylindrical plate 6 with a plurality of spaced integral projections 7 on one surface thereof, the projections being aligned both laterally and longitudinally of the plate. The resistance member 8 may be arranged as desired, and when arranged as in Fig. 6 the plates may be provided with grooves 12 for carrying one end of the resistance member to the outside of the plate. Two supporting plates may be bolted together with a resistance interposed between them, as shown in Fig. 4, and two elements as shown in Fig. 4 may be bolted together as shown in Fig. 15. Fig. 12 shows a combination of two supporting plates 6 and a central flat plate 15, and in a modification of this arrangement the wire is wound on the plate 15. In another modification, the supporting plate constitutes a cylindrical muffle which may be divided in halves longitudinally.
