Abstract

A pre-weighted fishing float comprises a float body 1 with a threaded end 3, a plunger 8 and spring 9, and a housing 6 which has an internal thread 5 at the top, and a small hole 4 horizontally across the bottom through which fishing line is passed. By inserting the end 3 into the threaded position 5 of the housing 6, the plunger 8 and return spring 9 are depressed, thus trapping fishing line against the bottom of the housing 6 and locking the float in any given position on the line. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Locking Float This invention relates to a fishing float that requires no locking shot.
Floats as used by fishermen are normally locked in position on the line by two or more lead shots placed either side of the ring at the base of the float.
This lead shot is frequently dispensed with on completion of fishing, and is detrimental to wild life.
The present invention embodies a pre weighted float body with a screw thread at the base instead of a ring, which is interchangeable with float bodies of different weights, a housing into which the float body can be screwed, which has a small hole passing horizontally across the bottom, and a plunger with brass return spring.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 - shows the float body with brass insert and screwed end piece.
Figure 2 - shows the housing.
Figure 3 - shows the plunger and return spring.
Figure 4 - shows a sectional view of the float body screwed into the housing, with plunger and return spring in the unlocked position. This comprises the float as a whole.
Referring to the drawings, the float body 1 with brass balance weight 2 inserted in the bottom, has a thread 3 at the base. In order to lock the float Figure 4 onto fishing line, the line is first passed through the small hole 4 in the housing, the return spring 9 and plunger 8 are then placed in the housing 6, and the float body 1 inserted into the thread 5 in the housing 6 and screwed down tight.
Because the float body 1 is pre balanced, the only weight required is at the hook.
To move the float Figure 4 either up or down the fishing line, all that is required is to unscrew the float body 1 partially from the housing 6. This removes pressure on the plunger 8, which is lifted from the fishing line by the return spring 9.
When the float Figure 4 is in the correct position on the line, the float body 1 is retightened in the housing, exerting pressure on the plunger 8, this trapping the line between itself and the bottom of the housing 6.
On completion of fishing all that is required to remove the float Figure 4 from the line is to partially unscrew the float body 1 from the housing 6 and slide the float Figure 4 with all components intact from the line.
1. A pre weighted fishing float with means for locking same onto fishing lines without the use of lead shot or other substitutes.
2. A pre weighted fishing float as claimed in 1 adjustable for fishing depth without disturbing float balance.
3. A pre weighted fishing float as claimed in 1 where float bodies of different weights can be interchanged.
New claims or amendments to claims filed on Superseded claims New or amended claims: 1. A preweighted fishing float comprising four elements, which are a float body with flat base, a housing with two apertures horizontally opposed through which fishing line is passed, these apertures being positioned slightly above the interior base of the housing. A plunger and return spring.
The float body is engageable with the housing, and can be made to hold down the plunger situated inside the housing, thus trapping fishing line between the bottom of the plunger and the base of the housing.
On partially releasing the float body in the housing, the return spring exerts pressure on the plunger and lifts it clear of the housing base, thus releasing the fishing line.
4. A preweighted fishing float as claimed in 1.
where all four elements together allow only a predetermined amount of float tip to show above water.
