Moulding-machine.-Mould lifting mechanism, particularly for jar ramming machines, comprises rods 9 having heads 8 passing through holes in the pattern plate and continually engaging the underside of the flask 4. The rods slides in sleeves 10 between which and the heads 8 springs are located. The sleeves 10 are grooved at 16a for engagement by ribs in the sides of slots in the ramming-head to causes the sleeves to reciprocate with the head. The sleeves 10 slide in outer sleeves 11 adjustably secured to radial arms 13 fixed to the machine pedestal. Pawls 22 carried in slots 19 of the sleeves 10 engage teeth 15 in the rods and are controlled by leaf springs 26 carried by a telescopic guard 24. A second set of pawls 32 are carried by rock shafts in the sleeves 11. Curved arms 35 on the rock shafts enable the pawls 32 to he coupled in pairs by chains 36 passing over sprocket wheels on a shaft 38 operated by a handlever 40 fitted with a spring detent 41 engaging a series of three notches 42 in a fixed disc 43. Movement of the lever is limited by pins 44. When the detent is in the lowest notch both sets of pawls are disengaged, the upper ends of the levers 35 tripping the pawls 22 by pins 27 that project through the guard, and the rods 9 fall to their lowest position, that shown in Fig. 1. When the detent is in the centre notch the lower pawls only are disengaged and the rods 9 reciprocate with the machine head during jarring. With the detent in the upper notch both sets of pawls are disengaged and the flask may be jacked up to any height within the limits of the rods 9 by one or more reciprocations of the head. In modifications the controls of the pawls are varied and in some cases only one set of pawls is employed.
