Abstract

An apparatus, such as a washing machine, comprises a liquor outlet system (2) at the bottom of a liquor container (1) and an emptying hose (4) closable by means of a stopper (6) and opening into the outlet system. The stopper (6) carries a flexibly resilient projection (7) which - when the emptying hose (4) is closed off - extends into the region at which the outlet hose (4) opens into the liquor outlet system (2). The projection (7) has a disc-shaped thickening (71), Figure 2 (not shown), to scrape deposits from the hose (4) during withdrawal of the projection (7). A liquor pump (5) is connected to a flange of a motor housing (53) by clamps (52). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION An apparatus comprising a liquid outlet system The present invention relates to an apparatus such as a washing machine comprising a liquid outlet system.
In known washing machine such as that disclosed in DE-GM 18 130, there is the danger that residues of undissolved washing agents possibly together with fluff precipitating in the liquor outlet system in the course of time form a plug clogging the opening of the emptying hose. Particularly in such washing machines, the outlet system of which is equipped with a fluff sieve acted upon by residual water or with a liquor pump openable from time to time for the purpose of cleaning, the stopper must be pulled out of the emptying hose before the opening of the liquor outlet system and the residual water be caught in a container. If the emptying hose becomes clogged by a plug in its opening, the residual water flows away at most in droplets so that the operator will believe that the liquor outlet system is empty.
On opening the liquor outlet system (fluff sieve or housing of the liquor pump) the entire residual water pours over the floor.
According to the present invention there is provided an apparatus comprising a vessel for containing liquid, a liquid outlet system disposed at a lower region of the vessel and provided with an outlet opening, an emptying hose communicating with the outlet opening, and a stopper adapted to close the emptying hose at its end remote from the outlet opening and provided with a flexible projection which - when the stopper is disposed to close the emptying hose - extends within the emptying hose to the region of the outlet opening.
The projection at its end portion remote from the stopper may be adapted to substantially close the outlet opening when the stopper is disposed to close the emptying hose.
The projection may comprise a flexible elongate element enlarged at the end portion.
The enlarged end portion may comprise a generally disc-shaped portion having an axis generally parallel to the axis of the elongate element.
The enlarged end portion may comprise a portion which tapers in a direction away from the stopper.
The stopper and the projection may be integrally moulded and comprise thermoplastics material.
The apparatus may comprise a washing machine.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be more particularly described by way of example with referance to the accompanying drawing in which :- Figure 1 shows a schematic illustration of the lower part of a liquor container provided with a liquor outlet system and Figure 2 shows a stopper provided with a projection.
The lower part of a liquor container 1 shown in Figure 1 has an outlet opening which is connected with a rubber outlet stub 2. The outlet stub 2 has openings for a pressure transmitter tube 3, for an emptying hose 4 and for a liquor pump 5. The pump 5 comprises a housing having an outflow stub 51, which is connected with an outlet hose (not illustrated). The housing of the liquor pump 5 is retained firmly to the flange of the motor housing 53 by means of clamps 52. To open the liquor pump housing, the clamps 52 are lifted off and the housing lid is pivoted out. Previously, the liquor outlet system should be freed of residual water through the emptying hose 4. For this, the stopper 6 is drawn and the opening of the emptying hose 4 directed into a catching container.
The stopper 6 has a wire-like projection 7 with a thickening 71 at the end facing the outlet system.
This thickening, with the stopper 6 inserted, substan tiallyfills out the opening of the emptying hose into the outlet system. Therefore, deposits can hardly collect in the opening. Figure 2 shows an advantageous embodiment for the stopper with integrally moulded projection 7 and thickening 71.
The thickening 71 is disc-shaped at the side directed towards the stopper 6 in order that possible deposits behind the thickening 71 are scraped out of the emptying hose 4 during the withdrawal of the projection 7. At its side directed towards the opening, the thickening 71 is tapered in order that the projection 7 can be easily introduced into the emptying hose 4.
The above described embodiment inhibits the deposit of washing agent residues and fluff in the opening. Small, yet deposited parts are rinsed out through the emptying hose on the stopper and the projection being pulled out.
The thickening must be thinner than the clear width of the opening in order that no obstruction exists during the introduction of the stopper into the emptying hose; This need however may result in such a large gap between thickening and wall of the emptying hose that an ingress of washing agent residues behind the thickening into the emptying hose can not be fully prevented. With the aforedescribed advantageous formation of the thickening, the emptying hose is however cleared free during each emptying operation.
1. An apparatus comprising a vessel for containing liquid, a liquid outlet system disposed at a lower region of the vessel and provided with an outlet opening, an emptying hose communicating with the outlet opening, and a stopper adapted to close the emptying hose at its end remote from the outlet opening and provided with a flexible projection which - when the stopper is disposed to close the emptying hose - extends within the emptying hose to the region of the outlet opening.
2. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein the projection at its end portion remote from the stopper is adapted to substantially close the outlet opening when the stopper is disposed to close the emptying hose.
3. An apparatus as claimed in claim 2, wherein the projection comprises a flexible elongate element enlarged at the end portion.
