Protectors, construction of.-In a protector for the heel or sole of the kingin which the upper surface is hollow, concave or V- shaped before attachment to the shoe a narrow groove c, which may have parallel, divergent or convergent sides, is provided. The nails are driven through this groove below the surface of the protector, flattening out the latter on the shoe and closing the groove over the head of the nails, Fig. 3. The groove may be circular, or conform to the contour of the protector, or may run along the medium line of a V-shaped protector.
