Abstract
203,899. Elrod, H. E. Sept. 12, 1922. Aerating; plant. - Sewage prior to treatment with activated sludge is passed through a preliminary settling- tank 10 and a chamber 18 in communication therewith containing a float 32, the rise and fall of which makes and breaks an electric circuit passing through the motor 33 of a pump 34, which delivers the liquid from the preliminary tank to the aeration tank 20, and through a motor blower 37 which delivers air to the tank 20 through a main 24 and diffusers 22. From the tank 20 the sewage passes to a settling-tank 25 provided with baffles 28, 29, and is discharged through a pipe 30. The settled matter in the tank 10 is subjected to anaerobic decomposition and discharged periodically to a drying-bed. Sludge collecting in the tank 25 is raised through a pipe 42, by air delivered from the blower by a pipe 40, and returned through a. pipe 43 to the tank 20 or discharged to the drying-bed through a pipe 44.
