Abstract
203,356. Frood, H. March 7, 1922. Clutches, friction.-Clutch linings are secured to their plates or other carriers by clip-like devices in such a way as to permit ready renewal when required. The clip shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is a sheet-metal stamping formed with tangs 11 for engagement with the block or lining 13 and a tongue part 12 which is bent around the shoe 14. The clips may be riveted to the lining instead of being provided with tangs. Fig. 7 shows a sheet-metal backing which is provided with tangs 11 for engaging the back of the block or lining and with tongues 12 which are bent around the shoe. The tangs may be pressed out of the body part of the backing instead of being formed at the edges. The metal backing may have side flanges or tangs which engage the edges of the block or lining. The block or lining may be secured to the clip or backing plate by embedding the material of the block or lining in holes in the clip or plate. Fig. 9 shows a clutch lining 19 secured in this way to a metal backing 17, the holes 18 being preferably undercut to key the material therein. The plate 17 may be formed with tongues 12 for securing to the clutch plate, or the tongues may be formed on separate clip members riveted to the backing.
