Abstract

A process for manufacturing a superficially coloured flat article, especially of the paper, bristol or cardboard type, or the like. A film of plastics material is adhered on a support member of the paper, bristol or cardboard type, or the like, by means of at least one coloured adhesive.

Description

SPECIFICATION Process for manufacturing a superficially coloured flat article, especially of the paper, bristol or cardboard type, or the like This invention relates to a process for manufacturing a superficially coloured flat article, especially of the paper, bristol or cardboard type, or the like, said article being particularly intended to be used in the manufacture of film-coated flexible covers usable in school goods, copybooks, correspondence blocks and the like.
On purpose to produce coloured flat articles of the paper, bristol or cardboard type, or the like, use was made up to the present for manufacturing film-coated flexible covers of a complex unit consisting of a sheet of paper, bristol or cardboard, on which was adhered a film of transparent plastics material, for example transparent polypropylene or polyacetate, the paper or the cardboard being either coloured or previously printed.
The aim of the invention is to simplify the methods of the previous art as to obtain, starting from a white paper or cardboard, a complex unit which may be coloured at will, without involving any additional operation step.
The process according to the invention is characterized in that a film of plastics material is adhered on a support member of the paper, bristol or cardboard type, or the like, by means of at least one coloured adhesive, for example a coloured glue.
Said process may be embodied as in the conventional methods used for producing filmcoated articles.
Thus one can obtain, when using a common film-coating machine, either a flat-tinted article or a veined one which is produced by streaking, along the whole length thereof, the scraper used for adjusting the glue thickness on the coating cylinder. Without involving any additional operation step in the conventional film-coating method, said process enables the manufacture of a product at a cost lower than that obtained in a method wherein use was made of a paper, cardboard or like flat-members which were either coloured or previously printed.
It is clear that the invention may be practised otherwise than as specifically described. Thus one can use machines enabling the simultaneous use of a plurality of glues having different colours, the mixing thereof being possibly carried out along a predetermined fashion in advance. Further the invention is not restricted to the use of either polypropylene or polyacetate, the choice among the transparent plastics materials being only guided by the physical properties thereof.
1. A process for manufacturing a superficial!y coloured flat article, especially of the paper, bristol or cardboard type, or the like, characterized in that a film of plastics material is adhered on a support member of the paper, bristol or cardboard type, or the like, by means of at least one coloured adhesive.
2. Process according to claim 1, characterized in that the coloured adhesive is a glue.
3. Process according to claim 1 or 2.
characterized in that a veined article is produced by streaking, along the whole length thereof, the scraper used for adjusting the glue thickness on the coating cylinder of the film-coating machine.
4. Process according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that use is simulteously made of a plurality of glues having different colours, the mixing thereof being possibly carried out along a fashion predetermined in advance.
5. A process for manufacturing a superficially coloured flat article, substantially as hereinbefore described.
