Abstract
A substance useful as a food supplement or tonic for animals or a foliar feed for plants is made by mixing vinegar and seaweed extract, allowing the mixture to stand until the ingredients are dissolved or mixed, and mixing a sugar based substance, e.g. molasses, into the mixture. The volume ratio of ingredients in liquid form may be 61 DIVIDED 2 molasses: 1 vinegar: 1 DIVIDED 2 seaweed.
Description
SPECIFICATION
Improvements in or relating to food supplements and/or sprays
This invention relates to food supplements and/or sprays and has been devised particularly as a food supplement for animals and or folia spray.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a spray which will at least provide the public with a useful choice.
Accordingly the invention consists in a method of forming a food supplement and/or a spray, said method comprising the steps of mixing vinegar and seaweed extract, letting said mixture stand until the ingredients are fully dissolved and/or mixed and then mixing a sugar based substance with said mixture.
In a further aspect the invention consists in a feed supplement and/or a spray comprising a feed supplement and/or spray comprising a mixture formed by mixing vinegar and seaweed extract, allowing said mixture to stand until the ingredients are fully dissolved and/or mixed and then adding thereto and mixing therewith a sugar based substance.
To those skilled in the art to which this invention relates, many changes in construction and widely differing embodiments and applications of the invention will suggest themselves without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
The disclosures and the description herein are purely illustrative and are not intended to be in any sense limiting.
One preferred form of the invention will now be described.
In the preferred form of the invention a method of forming a food supplement and/or a spray and a stock food suppplement and/or spray are provided as follows.
A vinegar and a derivative of seaweed are mixed together and left for a predetermined period, for example, about one hour at substantially room temperature. The period must be sufficient for the ingredients to become fully mixed and/or dissolved as necessary. The seaweed derivative can be in liquid or solid form and useful seaweed derivatives are those sold under the names MAXICROP andALGINURE.
The vinegar is preferably apple cider vinegar.
A sugar based substance preferably molasses, is then mixed with the previously formed mixture again at about room temperature.
The ratios of the materials may be varied as required or desired, but it has been found that a ratio of molasses to vinegar to seaweed extract such that each gallon of food supplement is formed substantially by 6- pints of molasses, one pint of apple cider vinegar and half a pint of seaweed extract, produces a feed supplement that is highly satisfactory in use.
To the mixture above described may be added any one or more of any suitable minerals which may include, for example, cobalt oxide, cobalt carbonate, copper oxide, copper carbonate, iron compound such as limeonite, and sulphates such as copper sulphate and cobalt sulphate, although this list is by no means exhaustive. The amount of such minerals added to the mixture will be dictated by the purpose for which the feed supplement is being produced but, in general, only small quantities will be used.
The use of the invention is as follows.
The spray would be applied to plants, such as pasture by any appropriate means, such as by spray vehicles, spray packs or liquid top-dressing.
As a spray it is found advantageous to apply the spray at a rate of about 3 to about 4 pints per acre.
The spray is diluted with water to achieve this application rate.
The stock supplement would generally be used as a stock supplement or tonic where it can be given to an animal such as a cow or a sheep either mixed with its food supply or by drenching.
The food supplement comprises a mixture which supplies the animal with a full range of minerals and vitamins in a natural form. It is highly desirable at times of stress for the animal, for example, just after and just before lambing or calving, but can also be used as a tonic for animals which appear to be below the usual standard of health.
Thus it can be seen that a spray is provided which at least in the preferred form acts as a highly desirable folia spray leading to increased plant growth and plant health.
Thus it can be seen that a food supplement is provided, particularly for animals, which acts as a highly desirable tonic for the animal and which can assist an animal in times of stress such as lambing or calving.

2. A method as claimed in Claim 1 wherein said time that said mixture is allowed to stand comprises a period of substantially one hour.
3. A method as claimed in Claim 1 wherein said sugar based substance comprises molasses.
4. A method as claimed in any one of the preceding claims wherein said vinegar comprises apple cider vinegar.
5. A method as claimed in either of claims 3 or 4 wherein the ratios of molasses, vinegar and seaweed extract are substantially 6.5:1 :+ respectively.
6. A method of forming a feed supplement and/or spray substantially as herein described with reference to the example.
7. A feed supplement and/or spray comprising a
mixture formed by mixing vinegar and seaweed extract, allowing said mixture to stand until the ingredients are fully dissolved and/or mixed and then adding thereto and mixing therewith a sugar
based substance.

Claims (14)
1. A method of forming a food supplement and/or spray said method comprising the steps of mixing vinegar and seaweed extract, letting said mixture stand until the ingredients are fully dissolved and/or mixed and then mixing a sugar based substance with said mixture.
2. A method as claimed in Claim 1 wherein said time that said mixture is allowed to stand comprises a period of substantially one hour.
3. A method as claimed in Claim 1 wherein said sugar based substance comprises molasses.
4. A method as claimed in any one of the preceding claims wherein said vinegar comprises apple cider vinegar.
5. A method as claimed in either of claims 3 or 4 wherein the ratios of molasses, vinegar and seaweed extract are substantially 6.5:1 :+ respectively.
6. A method of forming a feed supplement and/or spray substantially as herein described with reference to the example.
7. A feed supplement and/or spray comprising a
mixture formed by mixing vinegar and seaweed extract, allowing said mixture to stand until the ingredients are fully dissolved and/or mixed and then adding thereto and mixing therewith a sugar
based substance.
8. A feed supplement and/or spray as claimed in Claim 7 wherein said sugar based substance comprises molasses.
9. A feed supplement and/or spray as claimed in Claim 8 wherein the ratio of seaweed extract to vinegar to molasses is a ratio of substantially :1 :6.5.
10. A feed supplement and/or spray as claimed in any one of Claims 7 to 9 wherein said vinegar comprises apple cider vinegar.
11. A feed supplement and/or spray as claimed in any one of Claims 7 to 10 wherein said mixture -further contains one of more minerals.
12. A feed supplement and/or spray as claimed in Claim 11 wherein said minerals comprise one or more of cobalt oxide, cobalt carbonate, copper oxide, copper carbonate, iron compounds and sulphates.
