Abstract

To enable a metal gasket to replace an asbestos gasket the metal is flanged over at 6 around the combustion chamber opening 2 and embraces a ring 8 of heat-resistant polymer. The compressibility of the gasket is thus increased without losing the heat resistance and strength of the metal gasket. Ribs 7 of soft material can be used around other openings 4 in the gasket and a coating layer 9 for improved sealing. <IMAGE>
