Abstract

Solid lubricant is applied to an elongate article or length of bar, tubing or strip material, the elongated article being moved along its longitudinal axis relative to a nozzle through which a suspension of the lubricant is fed, the stream of suspended lubricant issuing from the nozzle being blasted by a jet of gas to form an atomised spray of lubricant which is directed over the elongate article. The atomiser may be in the form of a nozzle surrounded by a number of gas jets angled with respect to the nozzle. The method is suitable for use in a continuous tube mill to apply graphite lubricant to a mandrel bar prior to reducing of the tube onto the mandrel bar.
