Abstract

In a resistance welding operation a fixed constant voltage is maintained between the welding electrodes and sampled to produce a proportional signal which is rectified by a bistable circuit which changes state on each occasion the welding current is initiated. The rectified output is compared with a reference signal, representing the heating effect, and the applied welding current is controlled in accordance with the integrated error. The actual current is sensed at peak passage and the resistance of the weld determined and used to control termination of the welding operation. The actual weld time is compared with upper and lower limits to provide an indication for an operative.
